just a thought I had last night (while sober surprisingly) to solve aucklands traffic problems.

create a bike lane or close of a lane to cages for only bikes to use. then, everyone would buy a bike (or cringe... a scooter) to get into work ontime and solve both the expensive parking issues, expensive petrol issues and the congestion.
at least allow us to use bus lanes on motorways and or the shoulder lane bit if its not already a bus lane.

and since its 2 months to elections. what about a rally of KB'ers to get the word out.

perhaps get as many people as we can to take up and entire lane and travel down the NW. or over the bridge or both.

this idea needs some molding so hit me with it.

I like the sentiment/general idea.

The best solution I have seen is Sydney with their priority vehicle lanes. 3 people in a car, cabs, buses and m/bs are allowed to use them.

Why cabs - I'm not sure (i'd leave them out of it personally) but the idea is that each person take up less room in the lane.

I thought it was the law now that motorbikes can use the bus lanes? Or is that just an Auckland thing?

The new dedicated bus lanes over the bridge should help:

we are not allowed to use bus lanes on motorways, only normal bus lanes unfortuantly.
so I dont know if the bus lane over the bridge would help

Yeah bikes can't go on the bus lane over the bridge... as it states "Bus lane ONLY Mon-Fri"
