Whilst away with baby bikie I got to wondering how you guys on sports bikes cope with carrying stuff on your bikes.
The ol XJ has a pack rack and I rig up a tank bag for long trips. so I can carry a fair bit of stuff.
How do you lot do it??

Ventura rack, and two packs (Strada and Aero, I think) that zip together. If I needed more than that, I think I'd either bungy it on or get some cheap throwovers, a tankbag or summat. Phunk I need some caffeiee n my tuping's gorn to shite.

Givi high mounted box on the RF. Works bloody well and you don't notice the extra weight (even when it's at the point of only just being able to lift it).

Quite impressive.

for the National Park Quasi Rally, my poor 636 carried myself and Ms Bug both loaded up for the cold, a full backpack on Ms Bugs back, and a full tank bag, with a full tank of gas, down to Hamilton. It actually did really well. The obvious effects of the extra weight, but still pokey. Once in Hammy, we unloaded the back pack and tank bag, so it was just us two, two up on the bike.. Otherwise, it's a backpack as the first choice, then tank bag if I need more room.. 636s aren't designed to tour!!

I use my dispatch bag. I can get three to four supermarket bags in it, plus I can hold another 4 (2 on each wrist). On the 250 I used to be able to get 3 pizza boxes, chips, garlic bread and a coke on the tank as well. The krappisaki as a rubbish tank for carrying things.

I dont really carry much for a long trip, just what I am wearing a credit card, phone and bike lock.

On the Zrex I used throw-over panniers.

Exactly my set-up.

Even on the RG I could get heaps of gear - throw-over soft panniers on the back, plus a sports bag tied on with bungees (or a cargo net), a back pack on me and an expandable tank bag. I have even been known to carry oven trays and pavlovas when the occasion arises...

If there is a will, there is a way!

youre not a real biker till you can ride with a Mac Attack combo resting on the tank rushing back home to avoid missing the start of the rugby

Wow... u are a brave man... i am really suprised it stayed on.

On my SV650 I had a Givi Rack, so had 2 x 38L hard panniers on each side and then cargo net a sleeping bag on the pillion seat. And then tank bag on the tank...

I am hoping to repeat the same trip on my Gixxer, thinking of tank bag, soft panniers and then a tail seat bag.... or a pack rack (but pack rack is too tall for windage right?)

For maximum loads (eg long trips with my wife as pillion), I use a GIVI rack with 2 x 36l panniers, and a soft carry bag or back pack strapped to the top plate. For shorter trips I use a single pannier as a top box.

If it's more than an over nighter, I bring the "trailer" - Heather likes to bring the kids in the "trailer" too. :)

Good thing it's self-propelled.

I have a set of "one free with every grandfather clock" type (ie cheap and nasty) Ventura throw overs if you want to experience it Frosty. Done the business for us over the years for sure!

Not waterproof (or any proof any more) but the price is right!

On a trip away I have:
Two borrowed panier bags thrown across the pillion seat.
A back pack strapped to the pillion seat.
Plus sometimes a back pack on my back - depending on how long I'm away.
A borrowed tank bag.

I have in the past put on the back of my bike a few things, that I figured would be ok... and I got them home safely.
A child's car seat.
A old fashioned wooden highchair.
A dehumidifier.
A weed eater.
A spare front wheel.
My tool box.
Huge boxes full of stuff.

I even carry all my grocery shopping on the bike as well.

Hey if it fits on the bike then I put it on the bike. No need to take the car.

Well matey all will be revealed in good time. The ol xj is just so darned comfortable and easy to ride its hard to part with her.But Im thinking I need something a bit more modern.
Riding with a certain um trash person a couple of months back The limitations of the bike meant I was working a shit load harder than I should have been.Sure its pretty satisfying blitzing guys on more modern/powerful machinery -(being honest most modern 400's are putting out better HP than the XJ and easily out handle it) but it really is hard work needing a lot of body english.
