Great rig Mossy. Probably a bit flash for Adv riding but how do you think that design would go in gravel, rough tracks etc?

Yes idd say buy a rolling wreck cr80 big wheel and use the front wheel as rear remake the centre bars and reuse the head stock and tripple clamps.Make the U shackle in tube steel not flat bar like i did.Stick light spring onto original shock or fit scooter shock.Sell the unused bits from the roller and you could have trailer sorted for $300 easy.Idd tow it if trailer weight loaded was under 30kg.
My money went on wheel with tire 180,ally chasis from bucket 250,U shackle 140,70 eye bearings,120 axel shaft,120 plate warrent rego, then smaller stuff like spacers, lights, indicators, plug jack, new shock.
$1040 was my total less the bag which was $460 but you wouldnt need spend those dollars on a trail trailer that would jump and bump around happy as flys on poo.

..........120 plate warrent rego,
Great unit mate
...But please clear one thing up for me...NZTA actually make you rego, warrent AND get plates for a 2-3 foot trailer that has a such limited carrying capacity and road foot print?
(I knew they were tight arse money grabbing pricks...but come on!) WOF I can understand (But applied to current bike rego & plates...thats like getting a WOF, rego & plates for a top box & set of panniers! (what will they think of next to charge us for ay)
Still...its a bloody great wee unit

And another silly thing is theres no WOF standard or rego requirements
for a sidecar... The guy at the testing station told me ( after looking in the book ) we will look at the tyre
wiggle the wheel..thats about it..

a clear example of blatant revenue collecting and having NOTHING to do with our safety or our machines road worthyness....but I bet ya the insurance company could find a problem with the unit if you make a claim etc

I just turned up with and asked to rego etc.
trailer rego isnt dear and warrents 1 year apart for 7 years.Biggest part was the plate cost.
no real standards for trailers apply BUT refer rules about load exceeding x distance from rear axel and take into account its bolted on to bike but if not classed trailer would need to be a certified addition to the bike opening can of worms.Basically if classed part of bike could need certed. At least as trailer falls under trailer under 2 ton catagory(no cert required).

ANSWER....
Practicality for the build, ease of trailer removal and asthetics.
We were intially looking at mounting it off the swingarm/rear axle but it was going to be a pain to build, bulky and awkward to remove the trailer once we arrived at the destination. On the DR the ID of the hollow axle isn't consistent over the entire length for a start and i didn't want to weld brackets onto the swingarm.
Making a mount off the subframe and/or pillion pegs but hanging lower was also going to be awkward to fit around the exhaust, would be bulky, and it would look bloody awful having a frame hanging down when the trailer wasn't on the bike.
With this design when the trailer isn't on the bike you pretty much can't see the hitch unless you look really closely. It's using a bolt on subframe secured to the bike subframe at 3 points on either side, 2 of which are the existing grab rail points. The total weight on the bikes subframe should be less than a light pillion when loaded, as it sits the trailer weighs 30kg all up.
The box shown in the picture above is 600L x ~580w x 400h, the trailer has about the same ground clearance as the bike if not slightly more and gives about 45 degrees of lean. we haven't looked at ascent/descent angles yet.

Make sure your all leds so no overloads or shaken bulbs blowing. I used a ip65 cabinet jack used on commercial machinery as it was the smallest plug I could find. I tried a small cheap jack from super cheap but it didn't plug in well or look water tight.

good work, will be interesting to see how it goes down hills with speed.
The old man has trailers on the farm behind the 2 wheelers, the AG200's handled them really well down hill being the tanks they are. But the XT250's you have to be careful with, the trailers will lift the back up and get all snakey on you. That said the trailers are tough Galv ones which carry a whole lot of enerta when full of truck batteries and dagging gear. probably weigh as much as the bike themselves.:devil2:

Yeah while it's built to be an adventure trailer it's not designed to be hard core, and I'm crap at wheelies anyway.

Not now your not. Add a metal ski on the front of the trailer and stand on the tough box. My universal stops me getting the front up more than 30 odd degrees. Its like a wheelie bar. Wonder how much pressure a quad axel universal can handle.
PS I still have the original plug and lead from mine if you want it for zero dollars down zero to pay over the next forever.
