First time I've seen this show. Mostly NZ content.... Crikey I thought we had to put up with alot of shit as bikers. Fuck being a truck driver in this country ! The stupidity of some NZ drivers is astounding.

Yeah, but it worries me more if they had car-cam and it showed footage of motorcycles doing daft passing etc!

That was my worry too.... Didnt see any of that, yet (knock on wood)
Got to wonder how much mileage they can get out of truck cam. Seems pretty extraordinary the risks some people are prepared to take.

It's quite clearly the trucks' fault that cars don't see them.
As the onus seems to be on those being hit to invest in safety equipment, maybe the transport lobby group could investigate the validity of hi visibility options for trucks and drivers.

At least the truck driver usually comes out better off.

Novel idea...
Anyone that's ever been pinged (or hit) because they failed to give way, must install some sort of visible, visual aid (like a big neon sign, saying RETARD) on their vehicle.
Then the rest of us, who are looking, will have more warning and won't get caught out by these dipshits.

I expect it will be a little like 33 (?) years ago when the rule was last changed.
Some of us - like me f'rinstance - have never trusted the current rule. I never expect the left turning car to stop for me and I still acknowledge those who do stop with a lift of the hand. So I hope it will be easy to revert to the original training. I hope...

+1 As long as I have lived here behaviour at junctions has been a lottery so I just wait until I know whats happening.
Oh, I look both ways too unlike some of the drivers last night....

Drove Tour coaches for a while. Probably worst I saw was a car passing me with a Truck and Trailer coming the other way. I ended up with the left hand wheels of my coach in the grass and the trucky was doing the same and I still didn't think the car would make it. Could have been serious if the road edge was soft.
Have seen plenty of people risk their families lives and those of others to get past my coach only to be only 2 or 3 car lengths ahead twenty minutes later.
Nothing surprises me on the roads anymore and I am just surprised the road toll isn't higher.
And it's not all "boy racers".

I sincerely hope that you weren't like most coach drivers. My experience has been that truckies are the best and most courteous drivers on the road, and coach drivers (well bus drivers in general) are the absolute worst.
In over 40 years of motorcycling I have only rarely experienced bad driving by truckies, but I have only once experienced courteous driving by a coach driver.

The concept of onboard cameras is still new in this country, but it doesn't take long to see the benefit.
The irony in my view is that it shows loads of unprofessional driving by truckers as well. I mean swerving to avoid someone doing a stupid thing and nearly wiping out an innocent party? Now I'm still new to trucking, only been at it for 25 years, but sticking to your lane and braking first, then considering whether it's safe to avoid a collision by changing path is trucking 101.
And no, you don't want to see any footage showing bikers, for as much as I'm a rider myself...it would merely confirm that as a road user group, bikers break the most rules no matter how you look at it.

Having spent a great deal of time behind the wheel of a truck over the last 30 yrs,I have seen some really stupid driving and riding, not just from cars and bikes but buses and trucks too. You really have to have your wits about you when on public roads, no matter what you are driving or riding.

No, I always tried to be aware of not only what was going on in front of me but behind as well. Big mirrors help. Any time there was traffic behind me I would always try to let them know when I considered it was safe to pass by indicating left and /or pulling left if possible to give them more room to pass.
Funnily enough I could usually tell the truckies who were in cars because they reacted instantly when I indicated left and always flashed the hazards as soon as they were past. Very few other drivers even acknowledged my courtesy.

But watching so far, bikers haven't been featured doing anything "mad". You'd think they would be though because "bikers break the most rules", but maybe it's early days.

I must admit I haven't met any logging trucks during my few trips around the Coro, but one of the few poor truckies I have encountered was a Northland logging truck. The other logging trucks encountered on my 4 trips to Cape Reinga have all been good.

If I get $1 for every frame in that episode I watched, I'd get......exactly 12cents
What an utter waste of an HDTV.

I doubt you would get enough footage top make a 10 minute show. They are actually pretty good to be fair.

Out on the highways maybe, but on the motorway here I could fill up a slot in a day.
Mind you it would only take half that fill it with car drivers.

Nice to know you were travelling at a speed where you could stop within clear distance you could see ahead, even if it did make you sweat. :corn:
