Pukekohe open test day August 12th

Alright folks, it's been a while since the last big meeting at Puke', let's have a mid winter event.
I move that all the KBers from all over the country that can make it, do so. The track's been resurfaced, the speeds are higher and the company cooler than ever before.

It's a test day, you ride at your own pace and the tracks normally fairly empty. You'll have to have protective bike gear, cordura or leather, it's up to you.

Something to watch out for .These open days are basicly uncontrolled.
There is a medic on site and Gary does have a towtruck to pick up the bike but thats all you get.
Please keep this in mind when out there

Do people tend to ride to these events on their road bike then tape up lights, remove indicators etc, when they get there?
Or is it better to prepare the bike beforehand, then load it onto a trailer and take it?
This is uncontroled testing--front up pay ya money and go on the track. What you choose to do re taping is your bizzo.
Personally Id trailer my bike there but thats just me

If I can get a set of tires I might be in for this track day. Don't know yet though... The Yokomo R03 HG Radial Type-D Drift Tires are out of stock form the country atm.

And my race van really needs a set before it can be chucked into Jennean going sideways at max throttle and steering on opposite lock! :devil2:

Speaking of drifitng vans - on the way home last night via the tourist (backstreet) route, there was a van almost right across the whole road - looked like he'd spun out on the off-camber, 90-degree corner. Oops. I looked, but couldn't see any damage on the sheepish-looking owner's van, nor on the Range Rover. Or maybe that should be "Rage RRRR!! Over!! The driver of that looked a bit grim as he marched towrds Mr Slidey. :rofl:

Yeah gave the honda a spin there and managed to make a prick of myself by getting red flagged from the Novice group. Damage is all superfical, all panels scraped cause the bloody thing managed to flip. Could have been worse. Funny how it managed a lot of "track time" before it slid into the dirt. I got the impression it wanted a complete set of new clothes and a change of colour. You will like the bits of rope I used to hold the fairing on. Still able to ride it after but at a slower pace once the chickens took over.

Oh and I'm OK :whistle: Zed thanks for the concern about my damage.

The track was starting to dry out nicely but it started to drizzle and I badly misjudged how quickly the track got slippery. The lose was so fast I didn't realise there was a problem until we had parted. They reckon I gave it a handful because of the tyre mark left but I was not giving it to much and generally running around 6 to 7000 through turn 1. However when I last rode Taupo in 87 I binned it in the same spot. Still better to have a "smooth" crash than a nasty one.

Ive got a moddified shock in the ZXR now so i have to test it at the track... Hopefully i will do a couple of sessions, but not keen on frying my rear tyre...

So 10am at Pukekohe Raceway, $90 entry fee. Track closes up at 4pm...

Im not confirmed, but it is looking very likely...

Welcome to our madhouse, Keith.

It's a public open day, $90 gets you as much track time as you like, and alot more bullshit to be listened to in the pits than you'd ever want. Great value if you ask me.

this is exactly the place and time to do it.. It's a 'public' free-for-all that ain't quite free.. 90 bucks will buy you a day of thrashing on the track at the expense of your tyres and gas.. and make sure you're fully kitted up ie no jeans etc. Cordura suits are ok, leather, full face lid etc..

JSG, it's a big track, and it's not like Frostys days where there's groups. We all go at the same time, which means you have racers on 6s and thous hacking around. You can't get in the way, or they'll take you out and ruin everyone's day. It's not a structured KB day. Why don't you come and watch the first session or so, then you can pay and join the next if you think you won't put yourself in danger..

Enig.. could just meet at the Paps autobahn.. what time does it start btw? normally the first session is around 9.30..

that was fukin bollox when the drifters had been out, then the bikes went.. I remember when that happened, all the bikes did pretty much one lap, and came back in.. let the cagers clear the track off.. I think now Gary lets the drifters out after the bikes, which is a lot nicer.. The drifters can be quite cool to watch tho.. Never been there when trucks have been practicing, but saying that, I was there when a Dodge Viper was on the track. That's nearly a truck.. I also managed to red line the 636 in 6th on that back straight. Indicated 285kph stock :Punk:

that's the thing JSG.. you just use the track. There's no one there. But the services aren't too far away. I was there when someone had quite a bang. Ambo was there within 10 mins which isn't too bad..
No bails etc either. And it won't change.. Just don't go hard out..
but this isn't the first time these days have been done. Everyone there knows the score, so don't stress about it

true about evolution. But (and I can proove), your bike is no more powerful than your 03, because Kawa restricted it by around ~10hp. Use that jumper mod I showed you, and then it'll have more power. Until then, it's just fugly. I'm still not liking the shape. It's gone soft, and has a soft noise to boot..

yup, 10+ ponies are stabled.. I've heard of someone doing it with a paperclip.. it's that easy.
The last post I heard about it from KawiForums was:

By the way - if I do pluck up enough courage to enter - can I pay by eftpos at the track or do they only take cash?? Is food available at the track itself or do we need to go outside ... do these food stalls have eftpos too??

Well i might be a bit late as i have to set up the suspension on the ZXR... The TL's clutch is sorted and the bike is wheelietastic again... Just need to get MR's van and pack all the shit into it...

yeah, for sure.. If I can get away before lunch (which is doubtful, since my fukinstoopid meeting is at 2), I'd try me best to catch up with you lot, but wouldn't bank on it.. There's plenty more track times coming up. And I'll have the tank cam on too :devil2:
Have fun mate.. just watch for crap on the track like mud and cement dust! Took a handful of guys out last time. There was dust on the hairpin after an oil spill. That caught a few, including Mono.. where is he btw? not seen him for ages..

Speedy could have had someone take his TL down, would have thought you'd love that SM..

Well the weather turned out good at the track, it stayed generally dry and in good condition except for a couple of dusty patches and a wet spot :) coming out of Castrol.
I skipped the last session, but had some good, consistent laps today.

Feels more like all my birthdays have come at once.
First I got some laps in on 911 Fuck did I feel slow and rusty
Then sixpackback swapped bikes with me and I did a very slow session on his bike. Fuck I loove those gixxer1000's
To totally cap off the day JD loaned me his repsol CBR1000-Shit did I have a ball

What a day!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks to all those there that made it a huge success. Once the spannerman, imported from Welly, fixed the electrical gremlin on the TL, we were in fine spirits.

Vast range of riders and abilities, some great pit work and cool friends.

Highlight would have to be the final session, dicing and rubbing shoulders with me good mate Hayden at 240kph on the back straight. Funny how a K3 Thou' will out accelerate a TL1000S while only using one wheel. Bastard.

Bruce, Hayden and Grunta had to be the star performers, I got a really good view from the side of the track at turn one.

BIG thanks to Quaz for the lap on the 636.

Buggy: You're on drugs ya cunt. 275 was as fast as I saw on the clock and by Christ I was surprised.

Thanks to all and especially Riff Raff for the amazing (as usual) shots and lunch.

I eventually got to watch the riders at about 1.30 after taking Deano to pick up his new baby. It was great to see everyone having such a blast, and such good weather for it too! Good to catch up with all the KBers there.
