Well as the title states i have a question for you.
I want to try get my wife into bikes. Her dads always ridden but she won't even go pillion.
The reason i want to get her into it is because i want my girls (5 month old twins :D) to be able to have a go when they are older.
I raise this issue now as i assure you i need to put in plenty of ground work before she will even let me get them some peewee 4 wheelers.
what do?

hi
Do you think that you really need to get your wife into bikes before she will be comfortable with your girls learning to ride? Maybe you should get her to see kids MX and she can see that it is a safe way for kids to learn to ride, and they have fun doing it.
Is a shame that she won't ride pillion though. Is a cool way to travel, but must admit I would rather be riding than pillioning.
All the best sorting this, it ain't easy to turn the female mind!

I took my girlfriend to an off road place with wee bikes for kids, she jumped on a PW80 & had a blast. Two years on & she has just put the L plate on her own bike:love:
Admittedly she really enjoyed being pillion when she finally realised I had no intention of riding like a tool.

im lucky - my wife loves bikes and basically demands I have one - even high speed offs at the racetrack dont deter her from wanting me to keep riding.
As for getting her into bikes - there is more to bikes than road riding, not everyone wants to sit on back of a bike so try to show her what all the other fun things there are to do with bikes.
How about trying to make a family day with a picnic, and take the whole family to watch a local moto x event, one that features kids as well, to show her how many families use bikes as a way to bond, - look at all the work mums and das put into their kids riding etc.
Try taking her to a bike rally - have her drive there with your gear and just spend time around riders, let her see what kind of lifelong friendships are made through riding,
Its not as easy as just trying to make her get on the thing, you need to show her that biking is about way more than just sitting on a bike for a few hours - let her discover at her own speed how much of a life enriching experience it can be to live your life around motorcycles.
good luck

Good luck bro. Sounds like you should push her less on riding pillion and defend you right to keep riding though.

Babies only 5 months old and she's never been able to be convinced previously. I'd say hold off till the terrible twos hit then offer pillion ing somewhere for a coffee while someone babysits. Unless she requires a baby break much earlier. Softly softly though id say.

There you go. Don't forget to tell her how nice it would be to have her wrapped around you as you tootle free. Notice strategic placement of word tootle. You should go soo smooth and slow when u do manage to get her on the back. Leave her feeling good and wanting another 'escape'.
Best luck and of course if she still says no, find a way to deal with that :sunny:

It's so cool to want your wife and girls to be enjoying bikes the way you do. It would be fun for you to be able to ride together.
I agree with Number One, having babies and small children can be a deterant for many mothers to engage in something they may see as having an elemant of danger.
Do tough take her to events bike related, take her with you to bike shops when you need to look at anything bike related. She may like to pass some time trying on girls bike gear
Tigertim20 has some good ideas. Do show her the socialising side of biking, as that is a large part of riding. Find out what styles of bikes get her attention.... off road might be what gets her attention as she might see it as less dangerous and more fun .
Most important don't push, we all need to find our attraction to riding at our own pace.

They are pretty, I love to drool over them myself. But the only pillion ride which scared the bejesus out of me was on scenic drive on an R1.
Some girls like to pillion on a sports bike though, maybe your wife will too :)

as your said, it is a good idea. I am looking for breeding games, I found Tiny Monsters (http://www.dotmmo.com/tiny-monsters-12100.html) and Monster Story. There are the latest breeding games. But I don't know which one is better, who can give me some advices.

Christmas is coming. Your present to her is... A nice, safe 50cc scooter plus a basic handling skills course/learn to ride day. Now to think about the look on her face when she realises what you've got for her...

Has she expressed any concerns or lack of confidence as to why she won't get on a bike?????
On Sunday I did a training day in Taupo on my hubbies 675 Daytona. I have a nearly 3 year old and a 5 week old. It was hard leaving the youngest one but worth it, I had a great day, got heaps out of it and it was great to come home to her.
I wish you luck, I hope she gets in to it. It's a great way to feel free and to meet a great bunch of new and like minded people.

I rode pillion on the back of an R1 from Auckland to Taupo... every bump felt like someone slapping my ass with a fence pailing, by Tirau I was begging for mercy and a fat arse.
Has your wifey given you reasons as to why she wont get on a bike? Is she scared of the "what may happen if we crash" factors?
My wifey loves being on the back of my bike and I would like to take her out on it more often but I find I am scared (over cautious) when wifey is on the back, last thing I want to do is tell her parents I hurt (or worse) their daughter, plus don't want to mess up that sexy body!!!

Look - hate to be a party pooper but maybe this isnt such a great time to be tearing about with a pillion. Like you we have twins and actually had 3 under 5 because of this. Vicki was really not interested until the girls were a lot older and then you need to factor in - some people just plain don't like motorcycles...
When your kids are a bit older the pressure comes off a little and maybe thens a better time? After all, if you have kids then you already have a lifetime commitment so waiting a few years is a drop in the bucket compared to that.
haha oh man, i just figured out the strike through thing.. Haha

my mrs would n't go on the back of my rf,because she felt unsafe and didn't like the felling of sliding forward into my back, and the foot pegs were too far back and hurt her knees, she wouldn't go anywhere with me on the bike.
she also had the"what happens to the kids if some bad happens to me" thing going on, i also have triumph thunderbird 1600,when I got it ,I got her to sit on the back ...engine off, just got her to try it out for size,,,, well now I can't get her off the bloody thing.
she got over what happens to kids thing because she feels safer on the triumph
I hope this helps and good luck,,, as the add says "it wont happen over night, but it will happen"

Don't try to force your wife into bikes. It just might not be her thing.
But do push your kids a little. A small quad bike is a good starting point for about $1000 - money easily recovered if kids are not interested.
One of my boys started on an LT50 quad when he was 2 and is now very confident on a 2 wheeler CRF50 at age 4. The other boy (age 3) however is interested more in TV just like his mum, grrr....
Just go and buy a bike for your girls when you feel the time is right (after all you are the expert in the field in your household) and your wife will come around when she sees the happiness it brings to your children. She will soon realise that it will become an important family activity and she will join in or miss out on some fantastic times
It sounds to me like "Grandad" will be in your corner on this issue if he is still around so that is a bonus, unlike my father in law who can't see the sense in having 15 bikes (tosser he is)
