so last year we rode through, a bulldozer had flattened half of it in the name of the national cycleway....
do we assume/ know that this is now complete and it is effectively a gravel footpath all the way through?

Pretty much gaurantee that it is a 3 lane highway by now.
Of course we might get a bit lost and take some deviations off the highway onto private land, but only by mistake of course :innocent:

Is it still able to be ridden by Motorbikes? Legally etc? Has anyone been over it lately?
From http://www.nationalpark.co.nz/home/community/whatsnews/137-april-finish-for-fishers-track-
Work on completing Fisher’s Track to create a high-quality multi-use recreational track should be done by the end of April, says Ruapehu mayor Sue Morris.Mrs Morris said that Fisher’s Track will form a key part of the Ruapehu Whanganui Trails – Nga Ara Tuhono (connected pathways) cycleway project that will link the hub of National Park Village and its tourism services to the leg of the cycle trail through Retaruke to the Kaiwhakauka Track in the Whanganui National Park.“By developing Fisher’s Track to appeal to the broadest number of potential users we are maximising the economic opportunities available to communities along the trail,” she said.“Fisher’s Track will provide a high quality experience for riders and, when completed, will run for 5.2km from the Tupapakura Falls car park through to Kura Rd in Upper Retaruke.”“The track will be 2.5m wide and meet the requirements of a Grade 2 cycleway which means it is described as an ‘easy ride’ over a smooth trail with some gentle climbs and suitable for beginner riders.”Mrs Morris said Ruapehu’s developing cycleway network is providing a significant addition to the District’s high-quality tourism assets that showcase its unique environment, iconic natural landscapes as well as heritage and culture.“Ruapehu’s cycleway network of trails such as Fisher’s Track and the Ohakune Old Coach Road offer a world-class cycling experience that enhances Ruapehu’s competitiveness as a visitor destination and helps cement Ruapehu as the North Island’s premier outdoor recreation area,” she said.“The cycleway network has a pivotal role in developing Ruapehu as a year-round tourism destination and stimulating both population and new business growth.”

Yessssssssssssss, <_< Phil and I went for an explore over Easter and noticed a trend by some Government depts to not fully comply with the law
[HTML]A.8 Gates and cattle stops
State Law
"Section 344 Local Government Act 1974. Gates and cattle stops across roads--(1) The Council may, in writing, permit the erection of a swing gate or a cattle stop or both across any road, where--
(a) In the council's opinion it is not practicable or reasonable to fence the road; or
(b) By agreement the road has been taken or may be constructed through private lands and the owner or occupier requests that a gate or a cattle stop or both be erected on the outer boundary at the cost (including maintenance) of one or both parties as may be agreed.
(2) Where a gate is erected across a road under subsection (1) of this section, a board with the words "Public Road" legibly painted in letters of not less than 75 millimetres in height shall be fixed upon each side of the gate and at all times maintained thereon by the person authorised to erect the gate, or at whose cost it has been agreed that the gate shall be erected and maintained.

Would have been nice to do the 42 traverse, but the DR's tyres were scary enough on Fishers :shit: and I didn't want to scuff up my pretty red topbox :o
The orsum power of the DR was pretty nice on the highway heading home, but I don't think I'll be trading in the WR any time soon.

Body is so sore and seriously contemplated staying at home today but had my pink flavoured milk this morning and just parked in the disabled parking bay at work.

Has part of the remade section of Fishers track reverted to a more natural state? The grass/dirt track seems to go on longer than I remembered it as being before you hit the gravelled section.

Has part of the remade section of Fishers track reverted to a more natural state? The grass/dirt track seems to go on longer than I remembered it as being before you hit the gravelled section.
 The gravel is pretty much the same as last year. Because of the rain the grass section was pretty slippery in places, so was a lot slower going than I remember it being last year, which might make it seem longer.
