Today I went for an ACC subsidised rider training day at Ruapuna run by Mainland Motorcycle School and Dan Ornsby Motorcycle Training. It started off with theory, then we had some time on the track where the instructors would give us feedback, then more theory, followed by more track time.
In the later part of the afternoon we pretty much had a "free for all" where everyone could ride at their own pace. I got Dan to ride my GSXR600 and do a few minor suspension adjustments which made the bike noticeably better handling. The bike was always a bit unstable under heavy acceleration in the lower gears, which is something Dan picked up straight away and was able to sort it out.
By the end of the day I had learnt a lot, and I can say that I am a much better and safer rider than at the start of the day. I'm a lot more confident now, and more aware of risks and how to manage them.
I encourage you all to do some proper rider training, especially if you're a n00b like me! Being able to ride around the track at my own pace was the best fun I've ever had with my clothes on! I can't wait to get out on the track again.
