View Full Version : Hamilton Honda - another top notch shop!

I recently bought an RK chain off the team at Hamilton Honda, it had to be ordered in, so I picked it up the following day. After picking it up, I came home to put it on my bike, only to find that to tighten it I had to wind the adjusters all the way out, leaving very little room for further adjustment as the new chain bedded in. I rang the guys in the Parts Department back, and they said to bring it in for a look.

I had a commitment that afternoon so I returned to the shop the next day, both the guys behind the desk remembered me and pretty soon my bike was in the workshop (without a booking, on what looked like a pretty busy day) getting looked at. I think maybe five of the team looked at the chain and how it was so long and they agreed that I needed to have a link taken out (as was my initial thought).

The mechanic did say that I had my chain a little bit too tight, before quickly removing the connecting link and grinding one link out. After that it was a pretty easy process of reconnecting the chain ends (after having to find a new retainer clip, the original one pinged off somewhere on the floor! Lol) and readjusting the chain tension correctly with me sitting on the bike.


What impressed me most about the way they went about this service was the manner in which it was carried out:

Firstly, everyone I spoke with made me feel more than welcome, I think three different staff-members asked if I was okay while I was waiting for one of their mechanics to be free.

Secondly, they took my bike into the workshop mid afternoon without my needing a booking, to fix the problem.

Thirdly, they recognised that the brand new chain that I bought from them the day previous wasn't quite right, even though their computer said that was what my bike needed.

Fourth, they ushered me into the workshop to show me exactly what was going on and how the problem was being fixed, and that the mechanic was happy to have me watching him work on my pride and joy.

And last but not least, the cost for this whole exercise was very minimal, I would have thought removing the chain, taking a link out, then fitting and adjusting the chain was going to cost a bit more than their tiny fee...!


So a big THANK YOU to the team at Hamilton Honda, you do your trade proud! And if I ever need friendly advice from any of your team, or to bring my bike back in to you in the future, I'll do so knowing that I'll be well looked after! I'll be recommending your business to all my friends in the motorcycle world, that's for sure!

+1 for Hamilton Honda, and Boyds. Found both places to be very good.
