Hello KBers:wavey:

Due to an injury I had to sell my MUCH loved guzzi :crybaby: (PhatGirl)
http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php/139166-Sideswiped-off-the-highway-by-a-4x4...as my shoulder was not healing due to the clip-ons and "ridged" ride of the guzzi, I had to let her go and according the Doc...give up riding for a while to let the shoulder heal (Or let a surgeon rebuild it)...yeah right!

So I thought...why not pay some bills and get all the stuff we need for our second baby (due in 3months!...girl this time:D) and get myself a cheap cruiser! ...there comfy!

I sold the guzzi and started hunting...but couldn't find anything I liked

...then I found MAC...another! rescue project  (when will I learn!)

MAC was in a TERRIBLE state...looked like he had been left at the end of a dock for a year or more, and had a blown forth gear
...but under all that rust, dirt and filth...I knew there was a good looking & unique bike just waiting to be saved.
If I didn't buy MAC there and then...he was being sold to a wreaker!!:shit:
...and being a sucker for neglected bikes...I bought him :woohoo:

After 4 days and 4 nights of non stop cleaning...I found a gorgeous bike!
I immediately ordered the parts he needed and focused on changing all his fluids and getting the poor bugger up to a safe and well cared for condition (Perfect mechanically in other words )

My parts arrived this week :woohoo:...so today I added the finishing touches to my "streamliner" project (he still needs a paint job and 4th gear fixed...but early days yet)

So I thought (now that he dosn't look like shit!)...I would share the results with my KB freinds)

Put in today:

Original pipes (professionally rebuilt with some of the baffles removed for a nice-not to loud tho- sound)
Removed the AIS system (Air injection system)
Barons Jet kit
Performance manifold
Tail light cover (Bling)
New hand grips
heavy duty saddlebag supports
Streamliner saddlebags
Another! lot of oil and new filter (the previous owner had NEVER changed the oil...chunks of dinosaur came out!)
...and gave him a tune

Its been a busy day:yawn:

So...Meet my MAC :2thumbsup (2001 XV1600 midnight star -roadstar-)

He goes like a scalded cat now, and sounds very nice...but the main thing is...its like riding my lounge suit to work everyday-super comfy and no more pain :wings: (be damned if Im giving up riding!...besides...I dont feel safe in a car )

Project total so far....$5700ish

Looks good.

Is that 5700 including the bike?

I agree with it needing paint, although more to break up the black on black on black. Maybe through in some matte black if it all has to be black?

Yup $5700 all up  (So far )

..yeah the paint is a bit rough, but after a good cut & repeat coats of polish it came up better than I thought it would.(hmmm some matt black could be a go)
still needs the 4th gear fixed (gonna throw it a my mechanic for that tho...about $1200 to fix, but you don't miss it with so much torque on tap)

Cheap and nasty turds that turn into an emerald when you put the effort in, give a very unique and warm fuzzy sense of satisfaction!

Cheers nude, guess I'm just a bloody sucker for buying neglected bikes ...its come up better than I ever thought it would (for the price I payed!)
Ive still got lots of little jobs to do, which is great!...as I now have an ongoing project to tinker with in the shed :niceone:

Hes no Guzzi mate...but MAC certainly has a lot of character etc, so I'm damn glad I saved him from going to the wreckers :niceone:

Stay safe nude & My family sends its best to yours:love:

Cheers Tig, Ive really enjoyed working on this one, dunno about butching him tho ...I was just going for ultimate comfort levels for the shoulder & all round usability.
Did a shake down run on sat arvo and had to tweek the accelerator pump slightly...but that was all, Sunday went into town to check out Lone rangers Bobber build and MAC ran perfectly!...heaps more usable power, smoother across the rev range and used slighly less fuel, so in all, VERY happy with the results.

Take care and Ride safe Tig ;)

I actually got those saddlesbags on special from the states...$150 on special! (I ordered all of the parts from the states, and got nearly everything on special...due to lucky timing)

Not my cup o tea but nice work, and hey its gotta be better than a harley. Amazing how neglectful some people can be of stuff, more treatment you'd expect from a car person... maybe that was the issue
