Nope don't need a race licence for the trackday. You will need protective pants and jacket (leather or cordura) and also a back protector, gloves and boots. I think the cost will be around $40 or $50 for the day.

Your helmet cant be older than 5 years and as far as i know you must use leather. pants and jacket must be able to join together. i did see one guy out there in gortex but mostly people get turned away(must be leather)There are no flag starts :ride:

I am resonably sure that the jacket and pants must zip together. They definitely have to be leather.

10th August 2005, 13:27
Hi

Gloves... just leather gloves that are in ok condition, no holes etc. Back protectors are not a requirment, they are only recommended.

Not sure on ya other question, guess Wendy will tell ya!

k14
10th August 2005, 16:07
Yeah they require help with marshalling and scrutineering. Obviously you can't be a marshall if you are riding but if you have a fairly good mechanical background then you would be alright for scrutineering. Don't think they need much other help, I'm gonna put my hand up for marshall, get free entry for levels next week then.

Sniper
10th August 2005, 16:26

I dont believe it, I've got Saturday off for the sole intention of getting rid of my track day cherry!! Fuckin beautiful, I'm amped!! Got the boots, 2 pce zip together suit, glove and helmet. Bought some tools yesterday and sorted my rear brake out, battery is all charged. Fucking hell, I can't believe I actually got more time off considering I'm off to Japan next month for 3 weeks. Anybody I need to contact, or do I just front up on the day? I'll be trailering the bike out there with R1Aaron, and as he's been out before hopefully it's all plain sailing. What do I need to do to the bike, ie sump bung and mirrors/lights/indicators. Fuck, I feel like a newbie yet I've been riding for 15yrs!! :weird:

Artifice
11th August 2005, 14:18
basically you have to duct tape up all the breaky off glass bits, and wire up the sidestand. thats for a have ago day. you could go further,... wire up the sump plug, remove mirrors and wire up hole left behind(good for a few extra k). replace coolant with straight water-dont leave straight water in after the day, make the internals corrode real fast.

onearmedbandit
11th August 2005, 14:25
Thanks Artifice. Went out for lunch with R1Aaron (and paid for his new rearsets for his R1!! - never did talk about when I'd get that money back eh mate?!?) and he gave me the heads up on whats needed. Like I said, I can't wait to get out there. Hoping to learn lots about me and my bike in the right enviroment.

k14
11th August 2005, 18:57
Just tape up your headlights, mirrors, indicators (anything that if you crash will leave glass etc on the track), another thing I recommend is to tape over the speedo so that you don't look at it and miss the braking point. The only other thing you need to do is wire or cable tie up your side stand. That can cause a small problem if you don't have a race stand but you can just cut the wire or cable tie off when you come in from each session. I will probably be out there earlyish and can bring out my race stand if you want to use it sniper, got cable ties etc too.

Sniper
11th August 2005, 19:03
I can bring cable ties and duct tape out. Just me being a track virgin makes me wonder about everything. Where to park even? hehehe

You guys will know me. I will where my Kiwibiker shirt and be riding a red/white Honda CBR with rego 40WUC. I look forward to meeting some guys out there. What time will everyone else be out there?

TonyB
11th August 2005, 19:44
No need to drop the side stand after each spin- take a tie dowh, hook it through the frame or something ( like fairing stays) and then hook the other end around something fairly solid. Lean the bike slightly away from the solid thing and the bike will just stand there.

**R1**
11th August 2005, 19:45

Out of the sweeper I had few 'movements' but in all honesty I was trying to get the back to move a bit. First day on the track so yeah it was interesting, got lots of room for improvement. My rear shock bottomed a couple of times (hit my undertail) but I think this is a result of the wrong line through the dipper. And I think that's probably my biggest issue out there, not knowing the correct lines. I want to take some Friday afternoons off and get out there to pratice some more. I absolutely loved it, and am looking forward to learning heaps more. Any advice is appreciated. You should have come over and introduced yourself.

Scan and post up man :spudflip:

No scanner at home, I'll get a new system when I get back from Japan. So until I go back to work on Friday and scan it there you'll just have to make do with an artists rendition. (Damn it's hard to draw more angle of lean, not that there was much more in the photo, but anyway.)

Bloody well done OAB, could I get you to draw mine to?
I got mine as well, I look ok, could have been less pale and removed that look of utter fear before the photo was taken
