So I recently purchased a new bike and it doesn't have a centre stand anymore. What are some methods/contraptions I can use?

I found the $20 bike lift (http://www.nightrider.com/biketech/bikelift.htm) but I have a CBR250 and it seems very high off the ground the modifications to the stand seem complicated...

You're looking for a "paddock stand" eg... http://www.motomail.co.nz/estore/style/tmst08.aspx

Ah yep. I have also seen the DRC Hydraulic Stand, is this designed for motocross bikes only?

try the cheap and simple.
A piece of NZ Oregon timber 500long, 300 wide, 75 thick
drill a 30mm hole in one corner
lay on the flat under bike.
put a 6ft pipe in the hole,
lever the timber onto its edge with the pole using the hole
the timber will rest up against the bottom chassis rails, or sump. or even the original center stand mounts.
I use this with my cruiser and naked bikes , neither of which have center stands,
Find that with practice, I can get either the front or rear wheel off the ground, depending one which I want to work on.
Have found it to be just as secure as the center stand too
To lower off wooden block, simply push the bike forward off it.
Cost? $0

A wooden beer crate.

You can buy a full one ... and empty contents prior to (some ... while in) use ... :innocent:

I use my car jack on the opposite side to the side stand.

Not so straight forward when the exhaust is the lowest part of the bike.

I bought a lift stand from Repco .my bike is low and it gets under the frame and lifts the bike easily.

just get paddock stands, rear or front and rear.

I've used axle stands and a bar/steel tubing before. and car jacks etc.. but paddock stands are just easy and do the job. Worth the money, trademe.

+1 to a paddock stand. I never knew how good they were till I got one.
