I was a bit excited about the weekend, double the racing=double the fun ! I was entered in Streetstock and F4 Bucket GP my first time doing 2 classes and I loved it :D. Going to Taupo I was more focused on becoming more confidant with myself, relaxing and not worrying about where I was compared to other people, turns out..by doing this my lap times came down and I was pushing myself without being fully aware of it.

Saturday:
I started the weekend with F4 being the first out on track 2. I almost forgot to go straight ahead at turn 9..oops only did that once ! My first practise went pretty well, stayed upright and got used to my CBR150 on a bigger track, unfortunately there was a problem with my transponder so I didn’t get any times from my first session.

The first Streetstock practise was 3rd up for the day. I had to remind myself different tyres, 2 stroke not 4 stroke, and different handling. I did better in this session than I did in the last race meeting in Taupo, dropping 3 seconds ! I managed a best of 2.10..better than last time but I know I can do better.

Qualifying:
F4: I was pretty chilled, I knew I wouldn’t be anywhere near the top for the GP so just wanted to have some fun, and had a few people I was keen to be in front of: Allan Ure (#28) and William Ford (#10). I went out in the back to try get some clear track and did a best of 1.40 putting me 29th out of 35, 1 second in front of William and 1 second behind Allan.

Streetstock: I was looking forward to it, to see if I was doing any better with my change of head space. I qualified 13th with a 2.09..1 second off first practise. Not too bad, but wanted to do better!

First races:
F4: I had a pretty good start off the line, passed a couple of bikes around the outside of turn 1. Had a really good battle with William and Allan the whole race swapping positions every couple of corners, they both got past on the second to last lap..but I managed to get past them both again on the last lap. Coming into turn 7 a lapping rider went up the inside of me so I took a slightly wider line not knowing William was trying to go around the outside of me, he turned in earlier than me and we found our handlebars connected..I managed to wack my bike down on my knee, look through the corner, took a really odd line but both of us came out of it still on our bikes. I finished in 23rd with a 1.38, 2 seconds faster than last time.

Streetstock: well well well..my start was shit (really need to work on them). I wasn’t really dicing with anyone in this race..tried to focus on turn 1 and getting it right. Finished 9th with a 2.07, 2 seconds better than qualifying..have to be doing something right !
Sunday
It was a wet start to the day, started with a scrub in for F4 Streetstock class so I took my CBR150 out to scrub in the new wets :D.

Second races:
Streetstock: With my confidence in the wet being a bit better than others I was pretty keen to see how I would go. I had an average start off the line and was not very well placed going into turn 1. Half way around the first lap and I couldn’t see dad anywhere..he had pulled in the pussy ! I had to remind myself a couple of times that I wasn’t on wets like the F4 bike..oops. I chased Zane Burrell (#103) down and got him on the second to last lap and kept him off until the finish. I finished in 6th with a 2.26..bad time.

F4: It was going to be a wet race, my first race on wets on my bike! I had a way better start then last time and passed a couple of bikes into turn 1. I got passed William and Allan on the first couple of laps and began to hunt down #141 who was half the infield ahead, on lap second (the last lap) I snuck past him and kept my place for the last lap. I finished in 20th with a 1.47.
The track had cleared up for our final races

Final races:
Streetstock: I was getting happy about how I am getting more comfortable with my bike. My start was an improvement and I got secretly excited in my helmet. I managed to keep David Neal (#7) in my sights for a few laps then let him go. Just when I thought I was by myself I see the front end of a bike try pop up the inside of me..how long has he been there! I began to try again and finish in front of Daniel Stroud (#112), I could see him getting closer and began to take more defensive lines to hold him off until the end of the race, I finished in front of him JUST. I finished in 7th place with a 2.06, a second faster than my last dry time.

F4: This was the big one the 30 minute bucket GP, I was buzzing to get out and see how I did! I got a alright start, better than before but still not right. After about 5 laps of battling with Allan, William and a few others a began to pull away ahead of them catching the group in front. I began to notice when I pulled on the front breaks the leaver would slip underneath my handlebar..odd, I looked and the bolts holding on my front break master cylinder/break leaver had come very loose. For a couple of laps Down the front straight I would try to tighten them while still racing trying to avoid coming in as I was doing pretty good. I ended up coming in to pits on lap 8 (half way through the race) to find dad running to our pit to do what was the quickest pit stop I have ever done! Re-entered the race 1 lap later in front of Allan. I caught up to William but it was all over for me. I did my best to pass as many people as I could before the race was over, I didn’t come last! I’m not sure where I finished but came out with a new PB of 1.36.

Overall I had a great weekend! I am happy that I am improving even if it is at a slow rate, but it’s happening! I would like to thank: Ride Life, Moto Academy, Wharfy&Katie (K2 racing), Racefairings.co.nz, Dad, and the volunteers of PMCC for making it a successful weekend.

You rode really well all weekend and looked very confident in the wet. There was heaps of great battles in the SS150 and buckets all thru the postions.

Not long to go before the PMCC Final
