Hi all

Not sure if people are aware of this. I've read about this in another forum. I've downloaded it to my Samsung SII and it appears to be working ok. I hope never to need it but worth a look.

CRADAR (CRAsh Detection And Response) is a man-down application that uses the accelerometer to detect a fall and sends a text message alert to a specified emergency contact, using the GPS to include a link to a map with your exact location. Great for cyclists, hikers, bikers, and anyone traveling alone.

It appears not to be supported on the iphone????

"CRADAR is a man-down application that runs on any Android phone.

CRADAR senses when you fall, waits 30-120 seconds (whatever you set it for), and if it doesn't see you move at least 8 feet, sends a text message to one of your contacts telling them you might be hurt. This gives your contact a chance to call you to see if you're ok.

In the text message is a link to Google Maps with your GPS coordinates.

If they don't get an answer, they know exactly where you are, and have the GPS coordinates so other people can find you too.

Once a fall has been detected, your phone will start ringing and vibrating, and the counter will start.

If you move more than 8 feet, or tap the "I'm OK" button before the timer runs out, the alert will be cancelled and CRADAR will continue monitoring.

If you do not move at least 8 feet or tap the "I'm OK" button, CRADAR will send a text message to your emergency contact in the following format:

"My phone detected a fall. I may be injured. http://maps.google.com/maps?q=42.484506368637085,-76.48738503456116&ll=42.484506368637085,-76.48738503456116&z=16"

Your contact can tap the link and see your exact location in Google Maps."

I would think it goes off if you drop your phone, but if it does, you can just hit "i'm ok" before it sends off the alert. Seems like a pretty good idea if you are out riding alone.

Mine too, but it seems as though from looking at the app in the market store that you can activate it before you go on a ride, thus removing the chance accidental crash sense txts.

I installed and tested this a while ago. It works as stated. It's quite fiddley to find a sensitivity setting that doesn't generate false alarms and still responds to a low side type fall, but it can be done

There is one problem, though, which the developer is looking at for a future upgrade.

After being set off by a fall, the app will fire off UNLESS cancelled manually, within the preset period OR unless the phone moves eight foot (two and bit metro things) from the fall position. Problem is, in a bike crash, the rider and phone will OFTEN slide at least eight foot from the original fall position ( it's eight foot horizontal, vertical doesn't count) . This of course cancels the alert. The eight foot thing can't be user changed .

That's an easy fix. The program waits until the phone has stopped detecting movement immediately after a crash (the aforementioned slide) and THEN starts the 8ft radius detection. This would ensure that sliding doesn't turn it off, no matter how far you go.

just downloaded this and seems to work quite well. set the timer for a couple of minutes which would let me pull over in the event of a false alarm and also lets the gps get within about 4 metres. sensitivity seems pretty good. (they have released a whole heap of updates for it)

lets hope i never have to rely on it eh

I have just downloaded this to my ph. I've set the sensitivity to medium. Dont know how touchy that is. Would it be relative to how fast the ph is moving? ie; sitting in a jacket pocket. changing GPS positions?

I'm assuming this is not iPhone compatible?

If you are after an App for the iPhone do a search for Accident-Alert, not free cost $4.19.
I haven't installed it so just read the info and looks like it would do the same thing.
