I wouldn't be surprised if the "demo" bike is a 50cc scooter.

Does the helmet make it sound like you are riding a uber-cool RSV4?

I wouldn't be surprised if the "demo" bike is a 50cc scooter.

It would be a farking awesome taking one out for a test, their "Finish and equipment are superbike level." Get your race leathers, and knee sliders out.

Most of the dealers should have a range of Aprilia demos in stock and if they don't have the model you're interested in then ask if they can get one in for you

Count me in if it means I get to take an RSV4 or Tuono out for a thrash. All those electronic goodies such as ABS, traction control, wheelie control etc should somewhat mitigate my own stupidity.

I definately know there is a RSV4 R demo available. I dropped it back after having it on our stand at Hampton Downs so they are around!

Are NTB Racing really going to throw me the keys to a bike that I can only dream of affording? This sounds good. Should really head down today before the weather turns to shit.

I sat on Emoto's V4 Tuono last week after I bought some gloves, very nice although the seat was like a plank of wood, still, I wouldn't say no to a ride...

I just want to know what a 1000cc superbike feels like at full throttle. Never ridden one before.

I just want to know what a 1000cc superbike feels like at full throttle. Never ridden one before. My 400 is the biggest/fastest thing I have ridden. I will actually be surprised if they let me test anything. Didn't try tonight. Will go down there tomorrow morning if the weather holds out. Even if they give me the keys to a RS125 I wouldn't be disappointed.

And if i get a helmet out of it then even better!

I'd love to test ride an RS125, a nice mental 2 stroke that I can thrash without reaching instant loss of license kind of speeds that my GSXR600 will do.

So ventured to red baron Auckland yesterday. turns out they have a pitiful excuse for a demo bike in the AUTOMATIC 850 MANA. didnt even look at it.
Took their dorsoduro 1200 for a spin. suprisingly that thing has some massive torque. was power wheelying in 1st and 2nd from 4000 revs haha.
didnt drop it so got myself into the draw for that sweet helmet and actually didnt mind it. very tall for my liking but the power was fun.
Suspension was responsive and nicely squishy for Sachs. Leant it over a little bit with a little bit much throttle expecting the rear to step and it didnt.
Well played aprilia.

Still want the RSV4 though. Brembo's, Ohlins, Drool.

This is an awesome ploy. If they give someone an RSV4 helmet, the winner will probably feel stupid wearing that helmet and riding something that's not one and might buy one :scooter:

This.^^^

I'm not going to convince anyone there's even some chance I'm about to drop $25k on a bike. Will this flyer get me a test ride on a Tuono that I obviously won't buy?

Those scooters are actually a bloody hoot to ride too. Epic bloopin'!
A certain bloke from Triumph NZ turned up at my ol' job with one that had a "few" things bolted on and bugger me it flew!

:brick:This competition is something that I (at Motorcycle Trader) thought of and arranged with the brand because I saw the helmets and thought I'm sure anyone who likes Aprilia wouldn't mind winning one of these. I needed a condition to win it and thought just ride one of their products - simple.

If you happen to win this helmet and think you'll feel stupid wearing it then I recommend you keep it in the box and be thankful you won something

Such a brand slut :dodge:

I've often drooled bout prillas too! I am looking forward to test riding something ... might only be limited to the scooters, unless my legs grow a few extra inches in length :weep:

Hang on. Why are you attacking me when I was saying it was good marketing ("awesome ploy")?
1. People love free stuff.
2. You're getting people on Aprilias who might not ever consider test riding one and perhaps would get some sales, especially from the person who won the helmet.

I went over to eMoto today with the flyer for the helmet promotion, and the bike dealer was a complete fuckwit. He wouldn't let me test ride any bike, and kept coming up with excuses such as he expected me to buy whichever bike I rode, and he wanted $2500 cash in hand before I could even ride a bike. To top it all off, he wouldn't even let me enter the draw to win the helmet. They certainly won't be getting any of my business in the future.

as i said , local man is a cock , pitty his customer service . and getting behind a promotion that might sell a couple more bikes. hence why my aprilia's have come from out of town (wellington /Alk / USA

Went top buy one of these a year or 2 ago when they were for sale , but asked the dealer ... who made them & what safety rating they had couldn't tell me either of these questions , for $1000 this is the first 2 things I want to know before even putting it on my head so not for me .. Still a nice looking helmet tho

This was exactly my experience too. $2500 in the hand to test ride an Aprilia!! Not often I agree with smokeu!!!!

I wouldn't expect him to hand me the key to an RSV4, but if he wasn't prepared to get a few "test pilots", then he shouldn't have agreed to be a part of the promotion. This "win a helmet" promotion explicitly states that test riding a bike is a part of the entry "requirements" for the competition, and nowhere in the terms and conditions does it state that a cash deposit must be paid before riding a bike. In fact, I would have walked away very happy if he let me ride an RS125, and then I wouldn't feel the need to bitch on KB about poor customer service.

I showed up on my gixxer, wearing full riding gear so it's not like I'm just any muppet off the streets who expected him to supply me gear and a stupidly fast bike that I can't handle.

So, FUCK YOU EMOTO, I'M NEVER DEALING WITH YOU AGAIN.

Hmm. You know. I've got this feeling in the back of my head that there is actually some rules around competition entries, or rather restrictions to them, and that this sort of thing (that emoto is doing) may well breach them.

To be more specific, back in the day when cell phones were not quite ubiquitous, I have this feeling that some companies got into trouble by requiring all entries to competitions by TXT, and as a result they had to allow other forms also. I'm just not clear on the detail.

Department of Internal Affairs would be the regulatory body here I think if anybody cares enough to trawl the website to see if there is any legislation like that or if I am conjuring up something untrue from a long forgotten memory.

Edit to add: Also perhaps the under the Fair Trading Act with regard to misleading advertising - they used bait (of the competition) to get you in the store, then switched (you on the entry requirements - effectively adding a $2500 deposit to enter).

I made a mistake this afternoon.

Went into Red Baron, who were very helpful, then took out the Dorsoduro 1200 or, coming as I do from a somewhat sedate 650 single, a Dorso-holyfuckingchrist-duro. Now I want one, even if other people think they are 'slow' and have a touring range shorter than some people commute.

Isn't that how a promotion should work? Punter goes in and has a yarn, takes a bike for a spin and likes it. Simple, really.
