they’ve acquired a germ of wisdom, hard-won over many miles, which has given them an appreciation of their own limits.
Says it all really. It took me a few years (and a bit of pain) to learn that.

I'm no artist - but there is artistry in riding a bike, laying in a set of perfect corners and knowing you got it just right,no missed notes,no mispaced tap turning a sculpture into just another flawed block of stone. The only subtlty I know is what I can do on a bike....

I'm sure that's not true, Motu.
But you're right about the artistry in riding a bike - it's the same as a perfect set of linked turns on the skifield - true right-brain stuff, and blissful.

'Tis true. The subtle fold, the gentle chord, gravity and speed balance in perfect harmony. At its best 'tis pure poetry.
Thing is too, you don't have to be going "oh my gawd" fast to enjoy it. A conductor conducting his perfect symphony doesn't make it better by doing it faster.

Thanks for posting that item.
I have always thought of it more as poetry than art. If you can undertake a trip enjoying the twisties without arriving too hot at any corners, or having to abort an overtaking manouvre at the last second, the journey takes on some of the aspects of a poem.
If cricket is compared to poetry, motorcycling should be too
