Mineral build up, under clear coat?

How do I get rid of this? it looks like theres some mineral building up or oxidisation under the clear coat.

would it be ok to just sand them off and polish??:crazy:

I'd say so, I have weak eyes though
If it was me (I'm a bit mental/fussy) I'd take the clamp off, sand it down and either polish it (takes hours) annodise it (I'm assuming it's alloy) or paint it.

You can use clear again, or sand it back and autosol it.

Yep, whatcha got there is clearcoat that has deteriorated and allowed moisture to corrode the alloy beneath.
My rearset and pillion peg mounts were covered in that.

I sent them to Kwik Strip in Avondale, they stripped 'em back to bare metal and did an additional treatment to remove the worst of the corrosion. I think it cost about $40 for the lot. Then scrub the hell out of them with a green potscrubber and go nuts with the Autosol and a Dremel (with a polishing attachment). If you know somebody with a proper polishing wheel use that.

Came up looking awesome. I didn't re-clearcoat mine, just give them a repolish every month or so because they are easily removed.

The bike I just finished building had all the engine casings covered in clear coat, and a lot of it was rough like in your picture.

I went a different direction though, and sanded it all off and scotchbrited it. Bike won't see much rain since it's more for show than riding, so don't matter.

All it took was some 180 grid sand paper and some elbow grease, I just sanded damaged bits, looks new I reckon, other than the clear coat protection..
Any suggestions as to what to finish it with? Good old WD40??
Im not planning to clear coat it in near future, al teast not until I get to have a chance to have the whole thing out :D

My bike has had a bare alloy frame, swingarm, wheels and engine covers for about 8 months, just autosol a few times and no proper re-polish and it hasn't dulled much
