Norton Commando Clutch Part One

The clutch on my Commando has been getting worse lately, not operating very smoothly. I had it apart last year and cleaned all the plates but the problem seems to stem from gearbox oil entering the clutch via the clutch pushrod.
I purchased an aftermarket pushrod seal kit that goes over the end of the shaft sealing it.
Pretty straight forward job...just usual imperial hand tools and a special clutch diaphragm spring remover.

Freshened up with a good scrub, note the original plates are solid fibre, and one is a later steel/fibre one. The old ones apparently last forever.

The transmission oil leaks in here. pushrod is 6mm, some aftermarket ones are 1/4 which according to the instructions is correct ( would have thought it would be other way around)

New seal and pushrod, polish pushrod where it passes seal.

Fit seal and holder, reassemble clutch.

The primary cover seal was in good order so reused it, put a thin smear of silicon on the outer cover and refitted it.
Cover is held on by one bolt :crazy:
Poured in a 100mls of ATF for the primary chain ( the clutch operates dry) Atf is red so can sort out the leaks by colour... :lol:
Refitted the footrest and job done.
Took about 1 1/2 hours.
Went for a ride and clutch action perfect...well as perfect as you get with a 40 year old bike.
