View Full Version : I reckon it is finally sinking in

Well on me I guess.
Speeding or lack of it.
I managed to stay at or around 100-105kphs all the way from Nelson to Hanmer return (in the brethy bus). I inadvently crept up to 115 a couple of times due to a bit of inattention but quickly buttoned off. As I received a ticket & a warning on the last 2 times over the Lewis pass route I was determined to stay legal - and I for the most part suceeded so big claps for the Padmei. I'm hoping I can keep up the good behaviour.

Funny thing is, it ended up being one of the quickest trips I reckon we've done too as there were no roadworks, convoys of trucks, etc. The traffic just flowed very nicely.
What I was impressed about as well was the patience & behaviour of the many many bikers lucky enough to be touring around the South island (barstards:oi-grr:) If you were out on your bike you had one of the best weekends weatherwise all year.

have you checked how your fuel economy was
I did chch to nelson on my XS Nov last , sat at 105kph both ways
Had perfect weather, and had a awesome trip averaged 42 mpg!
normally its around 35.
And yeah, another 500km clocked up this weekend on the Keeway,
at the legal limit, two up. awesome fun

Is it true no one died this weekend ?

Does that make it a slow weekend ?

Someone must have died. I know this because I went over the speed limit along with the others who travelled with me.

Someone did die, but it was a medical event which caused the crash apparantly. This will be the first time in my living memory that nobody died as a result of a crash over easter.

You were being inattentive on the open road and got a speeding ticket. How fascinating.

May be we are running out of motorists to kill?

Lets all pray to the water gods before they take another.

I ignored the "4kmh tolerance" bullshit and sat around 130 all weekend. Saw fook-all cops around (apart from yesterday afternoon).

Ignore the propaganda and just ride to the bleedin' conditions.

All the ones that were going to die on the roads drowned instead?

and just ride to the bleedin' conditions.

That would be great

Except:

Most people can't/don't know how to.

Most people have the self preservation instincts of a lemming.

Hence speed limits.

Perhaps this weekend has shown that those who chose to speed didn't die, and those who slowed down also arrived at their destination.
I await the news tonight, being full of your top brass puffing their collective chests' and saying how superb their performance has been.

Yep, they probably can't 'prove' the 4kph thing worked.

They nay-sayers likewise can't disprove it.

So instead of the 'glass is half empty' types ranting on (as they usually do) how about we all celebrate the fact that there were no fatalities?

(And people seem to focus on this 4kph thing - but seem happy to ignore the fact that slow motorists holding up traffic were also actively sought out...)

About 1000kms (in the cage) and about the only time/s I went over the 105ish was on passing lanes. After being stuck behind fuckers who can't figure out what speed to do on the open road 105/90/100/85/brake on up hill corners, who then speed up to 120+ on passing lanes  I've never seen it so bad.

Swoop
10th April 2012, 09:10
Yep
The main thing I can see is medals being handed out to the top brass and a few promotions perhaps?

Hopefully there will be some positive PR used from this weekend. "Pat on the back" type stuff for the motorists' and some encouragement for further advanced-driving type training to keep the standards up.
I will not hold my breath on this, however.

Nope, celebrate the active targeting of slow drivers but we don't see enough of these headlines;
http://www.stuff.co.nz/national/6708156/Woman-fined-for-slow-driving

She wasn't in a hurry :woohoo: She obviously didn't care about other road users neither so a good job done :Police:
At 30 - 40k below the posted limit and 50 cars stuck behind her in spite of the passing lanes where others must have risked life and limb to get past and with her attitude I reckon automatic suspension of license would have been in order :corn:

Not through the Dome Valley on Saturday...I even got a cops attention and pointed to the mid sized clapped out POS horse float travelling at 45-50 kph with what looked like about 20-25 cars behind it. Did he give a shit?..not on this occassion, he just sat and watched. I was third in line and a passing lane loomed, that was my chance to express my displeasure to the bitch driving that shit box. Yes there were times when she could have pulled over and let everyone passed.
Frustration is a cause of many a accident I would assume.

Unfortunately the selfish fuckwits who insist on holding people up are a lot harder to catch than those who speed.

+1 to that.

Yeah wonderful and increasing the revenue gathering opportunities even further...how about a tolerance of +1/-1?

make it zero tolerance either way . Umm wonder how either would go in court with the lack of speedometer accuracy in all vehicles? Isn't there some sort of concept of reasonable ability to avoid breaking the law in the courts? Or am I dreaming again  must be.

Now you're onto it - then we'll be just like Aussie with the tolerance level, even more so if we lift our fines to match theirs!:woohoo:

Nah you guys are being nice. I reckon drop the speed limit to 20 kph so people give up on cars/motorbikes altogether. That way the cops can spend more time doing police work.
Bring back horse tax I say.

No no. We live in a modern society now. Lets hire some consultants to draw up a plan of what to do with the flags if we don't have flag people to walk with the vehicles.
While they sort that out. The flag people can carry us on their backs until its safe to drive the vehicles (below 20kph) again.

This whole question of flag people threatens to solve the unemployment issue. If we don't have the unemployed to keep real wages down our economy will fail. Are you guys trying to ruin the country?

If motorcyclists cause the most accidents (ACC) then surely motorcyclists deserve the highest praises for the clean weekend!

You wont hear any of that though and suggestions that we have our ACC levies restored back to normal won't happen either! :angry2:

I reckon we should all get together & pat our collective backs for a happy safe weekend.

I wonder if all the young people down here got the similar message after the cops went & arrested something like 40 stupid drunk frickers on the local pub strip the other week. I'd better check & see...
