Single day bike registrations

Hi all, does anyone know about getting vehicle registrations for riding just for a day or two? the minimum that is advertised is 3 months as far as I can tell, and then they backdate if you renew the rego within the first 3 months of it being first put on hold which is rubbish. Have heard a rumour that you could get single day ones but dont know how to go about getting them.

NZ Post...ask for a MR27 form ;) (then specifie the amount of rego you want...from one day to one year!...shhhh, there a secret! :laugh:)

You can use the MR27, yes, BUT, of course you need to put it back on hold afterwards, and the 3 month minimum hold period still applies.

So

Register for 1 day (MR27 to change licence date)
Hold for 3 months
Register for 1 day
Hold for 3 months
...

If you break the hold before the 3 months is up, it would be backdated as normal is my understanding, even if you are using the 27.

cheers for thoughts. only use bike a dozen or so times a year so is a rip to be paying 40-50 bucks rego for each time. just found this post so will try it out

Ignorance of the the licensing system, and the exemption system seems to be the biggest fault i read in this thread.

I actually have two bikes now on license exemption, so their registration is safe.
I use to have 7 vehicles on exemption, and always got reminders when the exemptions were due to expire

all the information re exemption and licensing and vehicle registration is freely available to all,
even the uneducated like me can find out what to do, and beneficiaries if they are not lazy have plenty of free time to do so

you don't have to register it at all, just keep it on hold.

The ONLY time you have to register it (for a day/week/month WHATEVER) is when you want to use it on the road. I've had a bike on hold for over 3 years now. The only thing you have to do is put it BACK on hold after the 12 months is up, because they start charging you as soon as your exemption expires! (you don't have to register it for 1 day)

$20.40 for 8 days. For a + 600cc bike

For those who park a lot in city areas, or areas where there are Parking Wardens, this is not recommended.

If you keep you bike in WOF condition at ALL times, and use the system to your advantage,
$81.60 is all you need to pay each year for the License.
The day you license it for a week, put it back on hold vis the LTSA web site for 3 months.
They will send you a reminder that the exemption period is due to expire, a week before the date .
after 3 months, NOT before, license it for another week.
If you are pulled by a Popo, the likelihood of you getting a diversion for 28days if you are not a smart ass, and be compliant , is quite high.
Then go license your bike for 3 mths, present the receipt , and you may get the ticket recindered.
Then put the bike back on exemption hold.
As you can see, with proper management, and being a law abiding rider, cheap licensing can be had.
Or you can have several bikes and just stagger the weeks you ride them.
If you ride like a twat, and like speed, I don't recommend this,
If you ride within the law, and are not a twat, you more than likely will not get pulled and this will saver you coin.
