.....does it work along a welded seam?

Only 1 way to find out, should work.

... or you could use a little bit of lighter fluid and a match ...

From my meagre understanding of engineering ... and metalurgy ... the welded seam is the strongest point.

Did you fall off?
Did bumble bee guy kick it when you asked to pass him?

Hmm I expect it may work.
Or just freeze it and then pour boiling water over it?
Might have to give it a go, got a spare tank sitting here that needs some attention.

The guys I know that repair their own braze a washer on, heat the chamber and pull it out with a slide hammer

Did you fall off?
Ask me on Monday morning.

Have popped plenty of dents out with compressed air and the oxy set but I'm hoping to keep the shiney finish.

Have a gander K http://youtu.be/Fcmnde21R-0 May have to do it a few times but at least it wont discolour pipe.

To be honest, I probably shouldn't bother.
By the time I've finished with the bike the expansion chamber will probably be squashed flat.

You would need to seal each end. If you don't, as the water freezes it will find the easiest point of expansion, i.e out the ends. Even if you seal the ends you then run the risk of disfiguring the remainder of the shape. Best bet is to braze, pull, grind and polish.

I think you'll find that the narrow ends freeze first.
The middle bit does it's business once the frozen ends have sealed themselves.
(Or so I've heard).

Find an Engineer and ask about fluid dynamics I'm sure they will have the answer ;)

Perhaps I should just ride the thing and wait for the thesis to be published.

I've just done this on a KX85 pipe with a dent similar to yours and it worked superbly...
Plastic bag cable tied over big hole (exhaust end) fill with water from muffler end to 75% full and place in deep chest freezer vertically. Check after 4 hours and then every 1/2 hr until dent fixed. DO-NOT leave 'over night'.....
Your mileage may vary, but I'm about to do another, and have no qualms about it...

i've done this successfully a couple of times too, best for big dents.
the ends do freeze up first- that solves that issue pretty early on
as for the rest keep an eye on it. as above, time it so you can check on it, i have heard of people who have over done it and split their pipes

water can t be compressed
but the seal on the item you want to break may be able to

Ive done in the past plugged in take end fill with water place in freezer but a must is plastic bags over end or your freezer will end up with oily black shit all over it. if it dosnt all come out let it thaw out till the ice is able to move around in side refill and re freeze but be very careful this time keep checking i forgot and the 1st one split open at the seams messy.

did this about 17 years ago to a kdx 200 pipe, only issue I had was explaining to mum why there is an expansion chamber in the freezer, worked mint, I left it overnight and it had popped the dent right out.

results may vary262199262200
then I got greedy and put it in for a bit longer to see if I could get the rest of the dents out - 30 minutes later it split at the widest part, slightly to the side of the weld...cant find a pic of the damage.
Now I plug the ends and use compressed air plus a mapp gas torch.

lol love the shot of it in the freezer.
