ASB Online Banking
With the poor engrish mistake and the fact that I haven't used the account for years it totally stinks like a nigerians jockstrap. Curious if anyone got similar messages from them. I will be makeing a call to the ASB tomorrow.

Forward the E.mail to your own Bank manager. He/she will deal with it. In ways you never thought possible.

At the pub yesterday someone admitted to following the link and getting hacked. They got a text for the netcode password and that was the only thing that stopped their account being cleaned out.

Surely the from e-mail address should raise suspicion? @rrihio.com - can't see ASB using that
We got one at work purporting to come from trademe but the links go back to www.zoloteam.ru

I just found out that my rich uncle in Nigeria (who I have never even heard of) has just died, and I will inherit his fortune. All I have to do is send $10,000 to his lawyer to get the funds to clear. Winning!

A lot of people aren't computer savvy enough to look at the actual address instead of the display address.

Yes mate that is why I didn't follow any links. The shitty grammar also gave it away. You would think these dumb coons would atleast get that right:finger:...
Anyway I 800'd the ASB from here (USA) and they said there has been a lot of recient 'suspicious' activity. Not sure how they got my name and how they know I have ASB accounts. They have not been used for more than 3yrs.

We get emails from Westpac and ASB. Funny thing is we don't use either, and its usually about our "account security." Have also been receiving phone calls in regards to "Diagnostic computer maintenance for my computer." The guy quickly hung up when I laughed and told him that it was funny because I didn't own a computer. Doesn't mean he didn't try again the following night though.

"You have a virus in your microsoft computer"
I dont have one.
"We have a record saying you have a virus in your microsoft computer"
I dont have one
"But we have a record?"
I dont have one. You're lying.
"But we have..."
I dont have one, you're lying.
"but.."
Why are you working for someone who makes you call people who dont want to talk to you anyway, and tell lies to them, and steal their money?
"click."

"hello sir you have a problem with your computer"
"You have no penis"
"yes sir, I do not understand"
"Sorry you are a ladyboy"
"A lazyboy? can you turn on your computer please"
and so on..............
I quite enjoy it when they ring up, can keep them talking like this for ages. Their english is fairly limited so you can say whatever pops into your head, I kept one going for a while by just naming the things in my living room, e.g. table, fireplace, candleholder etc.
Tickles my fancy anyway.

I kept one going for about 45 minutes one night, They had all the answers, even when I said my Credit Card was maxed out. They were even going to give me an address to send a cheque to and an account number just to deposit money into. They suggested I borrow the money so they could fix my computer and stop it running so slow.
Eventually a "Supervisor" came on and started getting angry that they had spent so much time and still I had not given them permission to go ahead. Finally they bored of the game and hung up.
Persisitent and all the answers though.

.... Not sure how they got my name and how they know I have ASB accounts. They have not been used for more than 3yrs.
A few hundred thousand computer generated E.mails to computer generated address's ... they get luck ... sometimes ... One or two win's make it worthwhile.

ASB (and other banks in the same situation) has no control over these emails, they don't come from their servers, and all they can do is try to educate people to stop clicking on the links.
The scammer is usually not "targeting" their customers, just spamming addresses, hoping to catch someone who is a customer etc.
Why do we have to have threads about this crap? It's as bad as the spam itself :weep:

I got one a couple of days ago from a lawyer in the uk, this guy had done his homework, the lawyer office actually checked out. But the contact no's and e-mail were different, but similar. Very tricky, and would be easy to get suckered even after a quick check of the business. I forwarded the e-mail to them.....I'm sure they can sort 'em out.
The Kiwibank one's always impressed me (I'm not with them) at least all the links on the page work and go where they are supposed to.
Unlike the paypal one that was going around a year or so back....

Oh but it does. Like everything Microsoft touches though, it'll bring your mac to a grinding halt and fuck it.

We have our home phone and business phone on the same line. And the amount of scammers we get calling us from this "Windows Tech Support" shit is ridiculous. WE had 5 in one night. We now have no sympathy in telling them to fuck right off. WE have had teh few email tricksters, but deleting the email is one of the easiest things that you can do.
At least we know that if a bank or something wanted to email you, the Email address would be something like
R. Jenkins(at)tsb.co.nz... Changing with the other banks of course.
I really wish that they would fuck off completely though.... Damn call centre arseholes.

I know ASB makes a lot of effort (the others might to) to say that they will not email you about resetting your account giving you links to click on etc. They also mention that if in doubt, visit the bank website separate to the email to do anything.
This obviously excludes normal bank communication with a rep about banking or business etc.

lol I just complained to telecom. Calls were coming through from overseas but lucky they were using a New Zealand gateway. They apparently blocked the calls from coming through. Haven't had any since. We shall see though ;)

You guys are pretty hard on people that are just trying to earn a living. At last they're out there using their brains & are ambitious. Sometimes when they call I don't have that much money but try to spread it around when i can.
It makes me feel quite good about myself when I go to bed.
