Damn.
A few of us had this conversation yesterday about the big jump he did in Aussie the other week and how he didn't need to take the risk when he was so far in front.
Hope he's OK. Does anyone know how long he is out for?

Terrible luck and timing. I'm thinking the sort of injury that will need a fair bit of down time too.

There is an interesting interview with Aldon Baker on RacerX about how tough it is for the top guys to back off but retain their edge ( http://www.racerxvt.com/article/interview-aldon-baker-on-maintaining-focus ), it's about RV, but I imagine the same is true for BT who I think also would have to keep pushing in Aussie as the reality was the races were prep for the US outdoors.

Shayne posted that the off looked totally minor, but my worry would be how BT get's his head back straight after this, I mean timing wise it's so close to a repeat of his practise crash back in 2010 ( I think 2010 ) which has to bring back bad memories & he has to face the reality that to recover from this injury and race at a level where he can battle with RV this year is going to be very tough which just plain sucks for him as he was looking so good & he had put so much effort in to get to a level where ( my take anyway ) was he was going to give RV some serious competition.

Sounds pretty successful which is great, any idea on the degree of muscle/ligament/tendon damage ?.

BUGGER! feel rotten for him, a physical and psychological blow. Years ago got carted off skifield in ambo with injuries including dislocated finger - slightly painful. The other guy in ambo had dislocated shoulder, very painful. He moaned on every single bump we hit all the way to Taumaranui hospital. Dislocated hip has to be pretty major, and a lot of ligament stretching. Still young and healthy though, so fingers crossed.

He is a pretty tough bugger. I hope he comes right. The ligaments are prob a bit loose from the first crash.

When he was a young fella he broke his femur got a rod put in it then crashed again, broke his leg again and BenT the rod. Must have been about 10. He has come back from some pretty big injuries. Heres hoping he can make round 1 of the AMA

it was his last year of juniors when he did that, he was about 15, he bent it at the NZ champs that year, unless he did it twice

what he has done to himself over the years is pretty major, do not know what he ever did to derserve all of this

It's bizzare eh. Some people just have really rotten luck, others an amazing run. Shit...Rossi finally broke a leg after how many really big biffs? He's been charmed, BT cursed.

Hope he comes right and can find balance of speed/crash avoidance. Top guys pretty much have to go 10/10ths, Kind of hate to say it but cant help thinking of old adage -To finish first, first you must finish.

'Bout time he came over to the dark side!

he already has done a track day at hampton downs, on the ZX6R i had at the time, he picked it up very fast, but was shitting himself and wanted to go into the slowest group, we put him in med fast and he had a ball,

back in 2005 he got to ride the KTM125 factory GP bike for a red bull photo shoot as well,

Well im pretty sure M1 would be keen to supply him with a ready to roll superbike. I have mentioned it to him but he wasnt keen.

It would have to be for love initially but he would pick it up so fast and with all his contacts he would be able to get a ride in the AMA or similar in no time!

Look I don't know him at all but if he is continually busting himself up isn't he over riding??
He could knock 2% off and still finish first. Specially in the NZ champs,
"To finish first, first you must finish" ???

Yeah but at the level he and those guys ride at mate...a disaster is often only a split second away even if it ain't your fault.

They simply won't win if they don't go that hard all the time.

I dunno mate going so hard you stuff yourself up for the future (its not like this is the first time) doesn't make sense but I take your point.

Sorry BT just my 2c??? I really do hope you get better asap. And was looking forward to following progress on the international stage :(

Exactly, just look at the number of guys left in the AMA SX 450s, was shaping up to be one of the best championships ever, but injuries have already made it the RV show again.

It's just how it is at that level mate. Same goes with road racing. You're constantly one highside away from hospital food all the time.

It wasnt too long ago that RV was laid up for the best part of the season with a broken leg

Apparently it wasnt even much of a crash, crashing is a part of racing. More often than not if you try cruising on the last lap you end up crashing. Sometimes your lucky sometimes your not. He wouldnt be where he was if he didnt push those limits. Absolutely destroying the competition as he has is a very good physiological advantage going into the AMA series and those guys would have been watching.

If your a trail rider by all means take it easy

Too quick to write BT off. With the talent and determination he demonstrates, it's wrong to compare him to how easily we would give up... Speedy recovery BT and back into it like you know you can...

as a friend of his i am sick of seeing him getting hurt, i can only imagine what he is like about it, but at that level playing safe is just as bad as not pushing, they ride on the edge,

if he goes back to professional riding or goes onto something else i am sure he will be successfull, he works harder and is more determined than anyone i have ever met
