Anyone reading this who knows me will think I am taking the piss, due to a lack of anything[Ichoose my words appropriately!] on top. However my wife has recently become a pillion with me-well done her!. She has long hair and recently had a severe case of helmet hair complete with tangles and knots. So what advice do you have for her to help avoid this in the future?

The wind makes the friggen worst tangles in hair! Tell her to buy some spray in, leave in conditioner, and use it. Keep her hair in a pony tail if it cant be plaited.

Tie that shit up. A bun thing works well.

depends how much hair you have,

shoulder length hair can often be done in a bun
hair like mine can't, there's too much of it and it's too long (a tight plait is close to 2ft long).

a plait works wonders one your hair gets too long for a bun, nothing else I've tried works.
ponytails are useless at this point, it still tangles horribly because there's too much freedom to move

The wife uses a hair net thing, bit like a shower cap, her hair is only shoulder length but seems to work for her

I tie mine in a low ponytail and tuck it into my neck warmer. I tuck the back of the warmer into the base of my helmet and the bottom part sits under my jacket. Hair looks like crap no matter what you do but who cares, we are riding a bike and that's what it is all about. But this wat at least I brush it for my work in a corporate role the next morning. No wind knots.

My hair is nearly down to my waist, so I tie it in a low pony tail and plait it tightly. Then either tuck the plait inside my neck warmer and inside my jacket or let it fly free if being tailgated by dickheads.........seems to get them to back off when they realise a blonde female is riding the bike.

Tell her to wear a tight, low cut top so no one will even look high enough to notice her hair.

When my hair was longer I use to (and still do) wear a buff, put in a low ponytail, and then covered with the buff, and tucked down my jacket. Worked well

Mine was halfway down my back, and i got sick of the knots and cut most of it off. Now its a bit longer again, i just plait it. I'm going to continue to do so once it starts growing again.

I use a moisturising cream which is supposed to be just for the ends, but work it down the length of my hair before the obligatory pony tail. Even then, my hair still looks like crap when I remove my helmet. I've given up on ever trying to look cool as I take my helmet off! Maybe I should wear my balaclava more...
Worse than tangles though are the loose ends which fly up under your chin guard and end up stuck in your mouth as you're riding. I hate trying to spit out odd stray ends which lodge in or near my mouth cos I can't reach then with my gloved sausage fingers.

I should have not have discounted this one so readily-in relation to the bandanas-rather than shaving ones head! I shall pass it on.

No, no, no Ms Princess, we look very, very cool when we dismount our trusty Banditos :sunny:

Oh, I have a worserer one than in your mouth, it is the hair that sticks into your neck, just the ends. You go to attempt to move it and all is good until it settles back in another spot. Sort of prickles your skin, horrible feeling, usually when some of my hair comes loose from my pont tail.

All you women make the most of your lovely hair ... in a few years (or less for some) it will go grey

And then will become less of a priority on the body-part list ... that demands (begs) attention <_<

What do ya mean " in a few years"?

Bloody kids have been getting insulting grey sprouts coming out of my scalp for the last 10 years... *chants mantra* I love them, I love them... ( the kids, not the greys)

Anywhoo, that's why the answer's in a bottle named L'Oreal ( or Jamieson, given enough kids)

ALSO for the thread starter, and in topic for my darling mods , the use of Moroccan oil on the hair ends is absolutely magic on ride dried hair.

Apply before a ride, tie the lot in a plait, and let the magic work... Voila!

To the OP and ladies reading this. Helmet hair can be avoided easily by making sure you have a hot dinner in the oven, are freshly made up and wearing a smile and a dress with flowers on it for when your man gets home. Happy to help.
