Awesome! Have to catch up for some hydration down there.
Seems to be getting later and later in July, more chance of snow...
Anyone planning on camping?
Tokaanu is a good spot to stay if not.

What classes you guys going to run? I'm going Intermediate and Vets, 10 races pheew!

i may campervan it, if it looks like there will bea few people staying there,

ill be racing national 450, 6 months to young for vets, maybe look at bringing a smaller bike as well if i can get hold of one,

Shit I'm keen. Don't have a modern 450 at the mo...but may drag out an old YZ465 for a hoot!

There's always guys there on all sorts of machinery, bring it out!
A full gate with 40 bikes off the start is a bloody hoot all right!

Oh yeah. I love TT's mate! Never ridden up there, but I'm assuming I'll need some gearing? Maybe 80-90mph worth?

raglanash
19th April 2012, 11:06
I don't know about the speed but a 450 with a 14 48 combo is about right.
Tapped in 5th at the end of the start straight. Hootin!

Yeah well I'm thinking most 5 speed 4 fiddy's will run to around 90mph with std gearing anyway...so if you're gearing 'em up and still tapping out top, you may be getting close to 100mph. Fun.:Punk:

it scares me how fast my 450 goes now, i do not want to gear it up any more, i think 90mph may be pushing it but its prob not that far off, may put full power mode back on for this tho,

bring on the 2t Choppa, its been a while since we rub'd some plastic,

Well a KX500 will do an honest 70mph revving to 7500 in top. No reason a 450 that revs to 11500 won't do 90.

raglanash
19th April 2012, 11:57
I dunno about 90-100mph, there is still heaps of wheel spin even at that speed, and awesome stinging roost..
The place chops up bigtime, its all pumice topsoil with the occasional turnip chucked in.. using a sand/mud tyre is a good idea.
Still need some grunt though, the place gets so soft and chopped up, especially the berms, you can disappear into some of them and bog down if your geared to high.

I'm getting stoked just talking about it..

Sounds like the good old days of beach racing!!

raglanash
19th April 2012, 12:17
Yeah, roost, huuuge braking bumps and big straights, love that shit!
You so have to get good starts or it's an ugly first couple laps..
Track changes so much over the weekend, the poor paddock gets fu#ked right over.
I'll try find some pic's..

Yeah his old man was just as loose.

If you can't/won't fit a steering damper...maybe drop the rear of the bike a lil or push the fork legs down through the clamps to raise the front a lil? Give it a lil more rake?

His name is Luke Temple, and he had forgotten his MNZ liceicne so they would not let him ride the championship class, (but let him by a day liceince to race the non championship class) he is was the real number 9 in the 450 class at the time,

Is there an old broken man on an old bike class?

scott411
19th April 2012, 15:30
I do not think they run a vintage class, however I think you would be competitve in teh support class, esp early on before it gets to rough, drum brakes normally means hell corner speed,

thinking about it i might even run support, i have not raced a national event in a long time,

When was the last time we raced together in a national event? Must have been Pro 125 in 99? It was a terrible year haha I did get a couple of top 10s but im not gonna comment on our overall placings....

It was my first year in the seniors and I got a beating! Leon Andrew took me down hard and chipped a bone in my elbow at Whangarei. Oh and remember Chad Reed taking the big ass short cut the cheating c*&t

Correction. A 31 year old YZ465 might be a lil, but a washed up unfit piss drinking 45 year old most certainly won't be!

Guys of your ability, along with Chopper, can fuck off and play with the big boys!:innocent:

i was thinking the same, i rode so crap that year i think I only scored points in 3 races, and they tried to cancel the points in one of them,

that track at whangarei was really cool but so easy to cut the track, mess (cameron laird) did the same thing, making up about 5 places in the 1st lap,

And its in the original paddock, just the same as the previous racerX photo I posted, 4th gear tapped sweeper as the first corner. Quad carnage right there!
Picked up Shane Van Gisburgen off the ground there one year, quads were flying everywhere 3m off the ground!

Don't think for a min I haven't already tried! But it's the boss's son, so makes it a bit harder than usual too. Mind you...I was able to convince him to let me go to PI in Oct rather than him...so can't win 'em all.

Anyone want to pit with us? Going down Friday lunchtime with the danger tape to claim a good spot on the fence.
If anyone's keen let me know and I will rope off some extra. If not come have a yarn anyways, black Hilux, CRF 272 and the bro is 310.
Doing Vet 35+ and intermediate, hoping for a top 10 overall in both. 10 races is going to be a mission though.
Staying in Tokaanu. Definitely be some re-hydrating going on there Saturday night.

Getting amped! Just put a fresh piston in, got my 14 tooth ready and the new tire is on order. Game on!

Nice work on the photos man, challenging conditions on Sunday to say the least.

Lucky you left when you did Scott, it was carnage trying to get out of the pits later in the day.

Yeah man it was a swamp by 3 pm.
The golfcarts seem to have taken over the dickhead mantle from the quads eh, hooning around the pits and doing donuts in the farmers paddock.
A couple ended up with their wheels pointing upwards on Sunday.. But you would have missed that eh ya piker! haha... I did like their shotgun race starts though.
