This new bike of mine is giving me a back and butt ache.
Done about 100k ride today, and it hurts,,
so i'm planning to make some adjustments to the handle bars using adaptors and new seats,
now, how much would this cost me and what would be the best way to go about it?
just buy aftermarket seats, like mustang etc etc? or get a custom seat made?
Also, has anybody tired DIYing the seats to make it more comfortable?
any advice would be appreciated!
Thanks guys:Punk:

Where does your arse hurt? Tailbone?
Get lower, flatter, further-forward handlebars fitted, so that you sit forward slightly rather than laying back. You want your weight on the meat of your cheeks rather than your tailbone.
Changing the seat is a red herring. Comfort on a bike is fundamentally about overall position, not how hard or soft the seat is. Think about it - you can sit on a flat rock or a wooden chair all day without getting a sore arse. Change the seat if you like, but moving the handlebars forward and down is what will fix it (based on what I can see in your avatar photo there).

+1
I had a vl1500 did the same. Rotated bars forward 40mm and problem gone.

On my M50, I've done 3.5 inch forward controls, 2 inch risers on the handlebars and had the seat customised.
Much improved. Been to Wellington & back with no pain, soreness, numbness whatsoever.

This is what I think also. Before you go throwing any money around give your body a little time to settle is to the new bike.

Adjust the bars, maybe risers? tip the bars, or even replace then with ones that suit you better... height, shoulder width etc all are factors that need considering.
Another sometimes overlooked cause is the footpeg position.... moving these or even replacing them. I replaced the footboards on a VN1500 with different ones that were slightly 'further back' to the rider by about 2 inches but still kept correct position for the brake and gear (heel/toe) lever... made a huge difference in ass comfort

Ditch the cruiser and get a bike with a more upright riding postion.
A mate found a Busa more comfortable than his old 109..but now owns a ST.
Good chance its your whole body posture when riding...that reclinded position is not for every.....body :corn:

It's pointless modifying an M50. Get a bike that doesn't place all your bodyweight in one place - your arse.

yeah, now that you mention it yeah.. the foot peg position might be one factor too, this bike don't support any of my body weight on the foot peg, other than my legs.
I have no problem with manoeuvring /controlling the bike, but me being 5'11" 80kg . a short fat asian guy it does seem like I might need to adjust some bits and pieces of the bike,
Its fine for about an hour or so of ride but after that I get sore here and there haha

It can be made to work so long as you're rolled forward off the tailbone. I did 4500km in a week on the Nightster in January without any discomfort.
Pretty sure I would've been paralysed within a quarter of that if it had apehangers, though.

Im getting a mustang seat for my C50, for the pillion mainly, but should also make me a bit more comfortable. The problem with the stock seat I think is that it has no support on the edges so all your weight is in the middle of your ass, less than ideal really, also there is no back support. I saw somewhere a thread with a guy making a backrest for his VL seat by using a pillion backrest fixed to some flatbar. could be worth considering doing something like that.
Cruiser Customizing is where I look for stuff. Exchange rate isnt bad right now. Have seen some stuff on Tard me occasionally

Amazing... it funny how the body adapts into different environment / position.. I have NO back and butt pain now.. perhaps I let myself to be too stiff on the bike.. :msn-wink:

Dodo, I'm not going to beat around the bush here...Have you changed your seat fluid recently? A must for riding on a new bike as it pressurises to your weight and stays there.
Definitely worth getting it looked at.

I went from 20 weight fluid to 40 weight fluid
Made the seat so much firmer.
And every now and again, I give the seat a small inflation of gas.

Told you so Dodo!
I prefer the 30 myself, gives enough bounce when going over bumps. Especially at Pukekohe!

upper back and general numbness all around my butt haha
Suspension hardness might be one factor, another is upper body lean. I find if I lean back too much [from laziness or wind resistance at high speeds], I am going to end up with some lower back ache. This is because I'll end up resting mostly on my butt and any bumps will end up transferring up the seat along my spine. So leaning forward a bit and using my stomach muscles, especially at higher speeds, will reduce the lower back pain. [Exercises to strengthen your core - stomach/back - are a good idea.]
I also found my suspension - which as an experiment was set up to max stiffness for better cornering - was transferring a lot of vibration up my butt along my spine, again causing fatigue around my tailbone and lower back.
Upper back is usually from being too stiff, relax your shoulders and elbows. I'm still learning to do that more often and when I do, there's no aches around my upper back. Sometimes it's the wind buffeting your head/helmet too that transgers some stress down your neck to your upper back.

thinking of what you just posted tigadee
I alternate between my front and rear pegs on longer trips to alter the riding position
this alleviates soreness that will occur if just using the front pegs only.
But I can only do this when I know there is a reasonable road distance in front of me

Yeah, I can comfortably reach the rear pegs on my XS1100 yammys and on my putter putter Keyway cruiser
Both set of rear pegs are low on the frames,

I have a sundowner seat on my Roadking. I got if for her indoors because the factory seat was a bit small and sloped backwards.
What does he do with his "Master and Comander". You know I dont think I have ever seen a man ask that of another.
