Haven't seen any updates lately on how Dave's going. He should have had his surgery at Hutt Hospital by now, so can someone update us on how he's going? He's still in my thoughts every day.

Sorry guys for not keeping you informed, I think Stoney was going to do it himself but his last OP has left him a bit flat.

He had the burn mark on his right leg, which had turned septic, scraped off and a skin graft performed.
He found it a very painful experience and has limited his mobility for a while.
But other than that he's keeping good and wishes his recovery time would speed up but is still taking one day at a time.
His main hobbies now are sleeping and eating and commented that when he has fully recovered he's not going to sleep for a year cause he feels like he's already done a lifetimes worth.

When he does go on line it's only for a short time and I think he said he hasn't read all the "major accident" posts yet.

Thanks for that VT. Can you pass on to him my thoughts. Would like to come see him sometime, but don't have any of his details. Although I did drop by and see him in ICU, I haven't seen him since. And I'm conscious of intruding on his privacy. Can you PM me if he's okay with that and let me know how to contact him?

Hi everyone.
Thanks for the concern Riff :) I'm sorry fore the delayed reply. I've recently got out of hospital after a skin graft on my right thigh. They take the donor skin from the other, healthy thigh... So now I have two really sore legs and can only just walk, I mean hobble :D hehe

I've just logged on and read my pm's, and 1 pages of new posts and I'm already tired! Back to bed

Regards all
Dave.

Nice to know it's all getting better. A few hiccups here and there but generally smooth.

I understand you feeling bored with all the sleeping, hang in there bud.

You seem to have maintained a strong attitude mate, top effort , not long to go now. :niceone:

i have meet SC only a couple of times and he probably doesn't know me from a bar of soap... but the fact that he is a member of this group, makes him seam almost like a brother...
i only wish that i was living closer so that i may have the chance to go around and tickle his toes..

Only God knows... Hopefully no more operations. I'm so tired and drained I'm not sure I can endure another op

Have lots more tests though
ct scans, mri scans, blood tests, scar revision for the grafted leg (to minimize the scar after the graft has healed)
and the batle to get my haemoglobin up a little more.

Hey guys/gals

Thanks so much for the constant thoughts and kind words. Even though I know it isn't true, one of the things I was worried about was loosing the family I have discovered through my only hobby and social life, by some careless driver who saw it fit to take it away from me (as I have been told in reports). I wish I could ride with you all on every weekend ride, and I wish I could take time out on my own for those solo rides one takes, to reflect on life, or burn off some stress. As this is not an option, I promise to come out by car to any social events that take place, to keep in touch with all you lovely people.

Infact, what I just mentioned is my new passion in life - getting my new car. Since I can't (legally) drive a manual, I have to sell the "hairdressers" car, and buy an automatic. I can't do that until ACC have got my driving assessed by an occupational driving assessor. I have to re-study the rode code, incase they ask me any questions on it!! I think that is a little unfair, as I hold two classes of licences, and would've had a pilots licence too, if it were not for the accident! Still, nothing suprises me anymore. After I "pass" two tests/appointments, I have to wait for ACC to decide on, and approve any vehicle assistance/disability grants they may give, and THEN only can I sell my car, and go by a new one. Which brings me to the new joy in my life - what to buy! :) So far, I've decided on either the Ford Falcon XR8, or the XR6 Turbo version of the same car. What I get will depend on overall city/highway driving characteristics, as they both have about the same power. Also, after riding bikes, I'm not buying a car for speed, but only for accelerating/overtaking speed. Nothing worse than auto's that can't overtake or accelerate uphill!

Since life is short, and I (or anyone) could die from injuries from my accident, or bird flu (another fecking serious and quite probable world-wide pandemic, which would wipe out millions, including you and I), I don't mind spending heaps on something I will enjoy :niceone:

For those wondering, I'm felling "so so" lately. My paralysed arm gives me heaps of pain every day, almost a double injustice - no use AND pain! I have to stop myself from getting angry or my B.P & heart rate rises. My haemoglobin is rising slowly, a good thing. Sitting on 115 now, should be over 135 or 140. I still get tired easily though, and I wake up really sore and stiff. My remaining left hand hurts like hell some times, from cracking my knuckles habitually :( DON'T do it people! I just hope if I stop now, my hand won't become unusable in later life. I also have a couple of ongoing body hassles that go with being on long term medication. I'm not trying to complain for pity, I know that there are lots of people on here with their own problems, but that doesn't help the feeling of contempt, or worry I have on whats to come in the future.

As some have said, I don't really come on here anymore, only to check my PM's and when someone tells me people are asking about me in threads. When I get wheels, I'll check the meetings threads regularly. Thanks to everyone who comes to visit whenever they can, it is very much appreciated. If you will excuse me always being in pj's (old baggy shorts and T's), there is always coke (diet!), coffee, tea, milo, occasional beer, water and a few herbal/fancy teas on offer to drink with any biscuits or food I have  Ride safe and I'll see you all soon (at events, or when I take a month off to explore the South/North Island - I will accept any accomodation offers ;) )

Cheers

Hey Dave,

Great to finally hear from you again :niceone: Definately dont make yourself a stranger at the KB events :niceone: My old man drove both the XR-8 and XR-6T, He highly recommends the XR-6T as it has more torque, is lighter and better midrange acceleration...

But me, i would go for a Ariel Atom (the supercharged version) as it would be just like your R1 :niceone:

Glad to hear you are improving, and cant wait to catch up and have a yarn again :niceone:

As for the cage choice. Personally I'd handle it exactly the same as a bike perchase. Get a shortlist together of cars you'd like, then when the redtape has been jumped through, have a ton of funny going and trying them ALL. Then make your decision.

Stay strong.
