Yup - finally lost his battle with throat cancer at 71.... Dang... I was just listening to The Band last night... Thanks for the music Levon, you sang some stunners!

Funny old world. I was in San Francisco the night of the Last Waltz at the Winterland on a student exchange. But we were too jetlagged coming from NZ to go to the concert. One of those lifetime regrets.

I've a few of those myself. interestingly some of the best times I've had at rock and roll shows have been when I was dragged along by others. Best example of that is The Smashing Pumpkins touring "Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness": i was deep into my roots/country/americana phase and didnt want to go but went anyway. Completely blown away by the redemptive power of rock and roll.

Highly recomend Levon's latest album "Ramble at the Ryman" which won a grammy this year, recorded concert from the Ryman theatre in 2009.
