Stolen from the newswire - their description, not mine. (I happen to think the rider has some skills)

A Canadian motorcyclist has broken the stupidity barrier by posting a video online of himself cutting through motorway traffic at close to 300kmh.

The Vancouver biker, on what appears to be Yamaha's ultra-quick R1 superbike, makes cars on the Victoria Highway seem like they're standing still as he carves up commuters for his video - which has already drawn the attention of police.

Local media has reported that Vancouver Island police are trying to track down the rider - who will potentially be prosecuted on his own evidence.

YouTube boasts have become a great source of evidence for authorities in recent years - one clever chap managed to lose his licence and his wildly expensive Aston Martin V12 Vantage Carbon Black limited edition by driving on a Belgian motorway at 292kmh.

haha the video is much the same as the other 300kmh highway vids on youtube.. sounds like the police tracked him down to his mums house tho..

here is a sweet quote from one of the youtube comments left on that video haha, some people just crack me up:

"i just choose to play with my wiener instead of over-compensating for not having one...and by the way....when I said I don't jerk off in public, that also means i don't sneak up and blow my load all over un-suspecting bystanders...as gross as it may sound...I think the analogy fits.." posted by redphoneproductions on youtube.com

What I think most of you might not realise is how much one makes in terms of ad payments per hit on YouTube videos.

This guy will be laughing all the way to the bank - a million views will be a grand in his pocket.

Would I do 300kph on an R1 on a motorway like that for a thousand bucks?

Probably...

I happen to think that the rider is an idiot.
Yeah, he might be a capable rider
He may have survived his ride to post the vidio,
but he cheated death, not because of skill
but because he did not encounter that random driver that did something not normal.
The risk he takes in the vid is not only with his own life, but the lives of those others on the road as well
Filtering at that speed, ....just Plain Stupid
If he could afford to own a bike like that, then he can afford to do it on the track.

All over the back of your cage if you're lucky. An R1 with a wet weight of say 200kg travelling at 300 KPH would be a fucking missile. Depending on the size of the car you'd probably have pieces of him and his bike coming in through the rear windscreen and into the back of your head.

It's not me; it's me flatmate.

I have, prompted by your post, questioned him further. It's not views; it's actual clicks upon the ads.

So, no, there is no direct guaranteed relation.

However, laws of averages... people will click... posting a popular YouTube video can indeed be profitable.

Personally, and this is just me, I'd probably film myself doing 300kph on a motorway just to see what'd happen.

I have anecdotal evidence to suggest that it depends on the quality/retention of the videos. As I've got better at making them and invested in better equipment - the ROI improves.

Yeah, that video is utterly stupid. I have seen a lot of these types of videos and the lack of common sense indicates lack of skill. If you are going to do something like that, do it in a safe place. You can't fix dead.

Speaking of speed, I have a question. I am from the U.S. and moving to N.Z. in May. Looking forward to importing my bike two or three months after I get there. I have been doing research and see your maximum speed limit is 100 kph??? If you exceed this by 40 kph you can be arrested and your license revoked. Is this true????? This seems extremely strict. In the U.S. our speed limit is generally around 112 kph to 120 kph. I would travel at 130kph to 140kph and be traveling with the flow of traffic in open countryside. If I did receive a ticket, I would not get a suspension unless I was really flying.

I guess my question is, are they really that strict with speed enforcement in N.Z.?

Quick answer, this is not the US. Our limit is about 60mph on freeways (we call them motorways like in the UK), and the police enforce the limits very strictly. We don't have wide open interstates with the grass median, we have winding two lane roads like you'd find in rural suburbs. There is little money for decent infrastructure here. With the combination of roads, and reasonably high traffic density, matched with very poor driving skills and aggressive drivers, the police choose to target speed as it's easily measurable and adds quick revenue for the government.

Hit a rabbit at that speed and you wouldn't even notice it. I have hit rabbits at around 200 kmh (on a closed track of course) and it is no where near as noticable as at 100 kmh.

Hit a moose at high speed though and again you will never remember it. Nor will the moose.
