Hi all.

I have rust spots developing in the bottom of the tank of my suzuki gs500. Has anyone had any good/ bad experiences with particular products?

Thanks
Guy

Theres a few good products out there Por 15 (or similar) and another called Kreem (or similar),ist up you have to establish how bad it is,i had 1 pinhole sized hole in mine but after waterblasting the inside of the tank it revealed another 12 all in a line, soldered it up and it lasted a few years. The kits generally have a rust killer then a tank sealer.

I am currently doing a small trail bike tank. There is a product from a company called POR15. They use a generic marine cleaner followed by Metal Ready, finishing with US std fuel tank sealer. It is available as a kit for around $90 I think? Anyway you put in the detergent type cleaner along with nuts and bolts and stones etc and shake the living daylights out of. When your arms can take no more you drain as much as poss and put in the metal ready and roll it about for a couple hours. Rinse, drain, dry and pop the sealer in and roll it about for a bit. Job done!
Oh and count the nuts and bolts etc as you put them in, as it is best to get them all out before carrying on. My GSXR has a 10mm nut hiding away inside somewhere!

EDIT, got beaten to it!

Electrolysis http://users.eastlink.ca/~pspencer/nsaeta/electrolysis.html , plenty of videos on youtube on the subject, quite a few guys on the XJ forum have done it this way

Thanks for the help! The tank only has minor surface rust on the inside but rust can only ever get worse, especially since i dont ride it that often. Plus its tank gets drained when the price of fuel goes up :-/ hahaha. Anyone know who stocks por?

Edit: just read the electroplating link. Thanks for that i think im gunna save thousands of hours of sanding etc. with that trick...

POR 15. Easy peasy. There is no such thing as minor surface rust inside a tank, apart from anything else think of the tainted fuel you are running DAMHIK.
