About it eh,methinks they are going to be very surprised at how many take the voluntary redundancy if they go to the 8 hour shifts, many like myself wouldnt have bothered staying if it wasnt for the 4 on 4 off thing.

T'was 11.hrs five days a week when I worked at the Mosgiel mill...nights only for me.

They would let you work overtime on the Friday night - but only 5 hours, only allowed to do a max of 60 hours a week, they didn't want workers working themselves to death they said...

Hey buddy... fingers crossed for you keeping a job after it all. A stressful situation to be in an very unsettling until you know where you stand, hoping for positive news there. The job market is a bitch out there! Lost my job while on ACC and still trying to crawl my way back into a permenante job. My temp role finishes up end of this week after 9 months so activly in the job hunt stage - can only go a few weeks without an income. The shift changes may not be ideal if that happens, but an income and job is a lot to hold onto and I have no doubt you will adapt over time to a different weekly routine.

Indeed i do:bleh:Sadly from my point of view when a vote was taken to take up 3 8 hour shifts 5 days a week as opposed to 3 12 hour shifts with the loss of a further 7 jobs the union didnt get there facts right re the $s involved and 90% of the members voting took the selfish way out and agreed to the 12 hour shifts therefore voting 7 of themselves out of a job, fucking idiots.Wonder how thats going to feel when those going get told "wow i voted myself outta a job":weird:Would be funny if it wasnt so sad.

I've been plucked off the deck of the titanic more often than I care to remember, I work in finance.....scarey shit all round. I am glad it's worked out for you. Just remember people will say and do a lot of things quite out of character, it's normal in times of extreme stress. Let it wash as much as you can. Cheers fella and i hear what your saying i just find it hard to swallow the fact that 90% voted for a further 7 people to lose there jobs.I like the rest of them liked the 4 days on 4 off thing that we have done for years but only working 8 hours a day with every weekend off wasnt the end of the world i thought and the fact that if it wasnt accepted then 7 of there workmates (possibly themselves) would lose there livelihoods seems well fucked up to me.

With it being a small town etc theres plenty of couples working there, all things considered not to bad a place to be ie cheap housing etc with the mill paying quite well so people get set up accordingly, weird at the moment with still jobs to go theres couples there who stand to lose both incomes and all that goes with it,very sad.
