Anyone know of a good place in Wellington for a birthday gathering? Not a get trashed and make a moron of yourself, more just a couple of drinks, some snacks and not so loud you can't hear the person next to you?
Must also be group friendly, and won't charge me for booking the table or booth?

Calender Girls or Mermaids. Do it.

With some workmates? hahahaha
no. My sexuality is already questioned enough, they don't need any more damned ammo!
I don't really want to leave town, cos I live in the middle of town and most people would be coming from the hutt and stuff.

Southern X is pretty comfy and accommodating, and they even have some closed of loungey rooms at the back. Don't know about charges though.

Well they aren't the cheapest place in town (but classy enough to deserve not to be) and also not the most expensive. I like that its a place where all sorts of people can feel welcome, not too snobby, not too rough, and pool tables, as well as the cool outdoor area at the back.
Just googled and they have a flashy website too... http://www.thecross.co.nz/

It looks good. My flatmate used to work there, So I might talk to her about that and see if she can get a deal.

How long have you lived in Wellington?
Have you spent all of those years under a rock, or are you just desperate for something to start a thread about of an evening?

Bite me.
I haven't spent enough time in Wellington at nights to know all the right places. Sydney on the other hand, I know exactly where I'd want to go.

I'm sure GingerMidget doesn't want this to turn into a thread about how everyone wants to come to her party, SMOKEU.

FTR - I don't want to go. Unless she puts a bar tab on, which she should cause then everyone would turn up. Oh yeah, but jrandom is right. I am sure she doesn't want people to *want* to come to her party......

If there was free piss, a barbeque with eye fillet steaks, and pole dancers... I MIGHT consider it...

Matterhorn is pretty good for food I believe (get there early to get the outside though) or One Red Dog for Pizza and jugs of Tuatara.

So sneaking a BBQ and gas bottle into Mermaids would be of mild interest? ;)

Perhaps the offer of free petrol for the bike, as well? You have to get there somehow...

Of course! I forgot about that. And a new BT 016 for the tyre wear there and back...

Try cafe Istanbul. Friday and Saturday nights can get a bit hectic but bearable. Bellydancer there for a short time on each of those nights. Nice snack or meal options. drinks pretty average prices.
