oh what I would give to have a 500cc 2 stroke race rep thing.. iv seen ones built out of rg400 motors from road bikes and build them like motogp reps..

are there any bike 400/500cc 2 stroke road bikes in nz even?

I'v been on like the 500cc kawasaki h1 triple but that things never gonna be the right motor for a gp rep

There's the odd road legal RG400 and RG500 floating around in NZ. They come up for sale occasionally on TM.

totally different beast IMO. that video is of the RG500 production racebike (XR series): they have no parts in common with the RG400/500 Gamma road bikes they're more like the Yamaha TZ racebikes and the TZR roadbikes.

I lust after the road bikes as well. Allegedly there are a few XR69's floating about in NZ that come out to play occasionally.

Hopefully, the week after I do. We can race our helicopters round the place, and compete as to who can spend the most on Jack Daniels and hookers.

LJ Hookers? Private race track....

Would have to make a rule, no drinking or shagging unless you've used your daily petrol allocation.

On an ever so slightly more serious note. I spotted a friend limping manfully across the super market car park yesterday, odd shoes & a Ti tree crutch. So I burst out laughing.. He had crashed his micro light the day before. Might give flying a miss cos he's really clever & I'm not.

You've got a VFR400 rolling chassis lying about havent you? RG500 > VFR400 = win!

Ive seen one in a late-ish model R6 as well in a magazine.

RG500's come up for sale occasionally, won't own a tidy one for under $10k. Mate of mine is building an RGV320, owes him shitloads but will be an amazing beast when finished. Other mate has an NSR250SP that is now a 300. One of them used to own an RZ500 back in the day, that's still floating around afaik.

Mint, might have a 500 one day then lol.. keep saving

Yea I got an RS250 ape, i can get the 300 kit for about 2k plus shipping ex UK so its doable as well... will see how the 250 motor goes once iv finished building it..

2 strokes are good fun, been looking at an RGV500 gp replica build on a uk rgv forum and it was all painted up in the lucky strike livery with replica fairings he had made his own moulds for n shit. Based on the 94/95 gp bikes, looked mint. think it was on a vj22 rgv250 frame but was nice, 180 real wheel n the square 4 500cc 2 stroker

I miss the 80's.
Living at the bottom of the Parapara, and all my mates owned stinky road bikes like Rz500/250/Rg500 or/FZ750/Vf750F..............
Few mates made the ultimate sacrifice though.

you're absolutely right: I looked at that but didnt SEE it. no idea. it does appear to have four pipes, implying 4 cylinders. retrofit honda one maybe? it looks kind of like an NC30 wheel

XR series included the F1 diesel (XR69)as well as the two strokes, the two strokes were still called Rg500 Mk1 etc (or was that the "customer" bikes?), I've seen one at Ruapuna that came from Invercargill can't remember what version it was though

There's always this here (http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/motorbikes/motorbikes/dual-purpose/auction-423332928.htm) if you want a 500cc 2 smoker that's road legal. Not quite the same as a race rep, but hooning around on a 2 stroke motard will sure be fun!

The bike featured in the video did in fact start life as a road bike. Tried to find some info on it on the gamma list, but haven't the time to dig back that far.
The swingarm is RC30 single sider as guessed by one of the posters however.
The bike from memory was putting 135hp on the ground.
There are a few out there in the 150hp range!
I'm currently rebuilding one of these motors to go into a supermodified quad :-)

If your going to be like that you can play with your own toys:bleh:

Definitely has a mixed heritage.

I'm reading a book at the mo in which Kenny Roberts claims that Yamaha & Suzuki had the technology to make highly fuel efficient, clean 2t's back in the 80's. They were already experimenting with electronic engine management systems, fuel injection etc all that time ago.
If only......

cant have been very well set up then

mine handles super

and yes i have ridden all the latest stuff and it still compares very well

although mine is properly set up

as for first gear wheelies, the 400 has such a low first that it will climb lampposts in first

To be honest the writing was on the wall a long time ago for that. Its only so long where your using Yamaha/Suzuki/Ducati engines and making your own $$$$$ bikes until people realize they could build the damn thing themselves.
Case and point Aprilla even with Ducati backing, and buell with harley backing crashed badly. Bimota was simply the start of the snowball.
Too small to succeed, to big to fall nicely.

Thank god VW bought you know who........otherwise that would be another future mess.

I still want my VDUE - even if it sits in the living room instead of a TV. The bike looks like sex.

Off the top of my head:
-Ducati
-Harley
-Triumph
-MV Agusta
-Norton

But Bimota did it the most often in the shortest time-span. Most of the other failures happened over a few generations.

There are probably more Bimota Vdues running than 1989 Triumph Buccaneers still assembled........:killingme

Don't even get me started on the Norton Nemesis. Or their beloved Rotary. I believe Norton is its 4 rendition in the last 25 years.

Harley was very lucky to be sleeping with the US govt. Some bizarre policies had been passed several times to stop them selling zero often.

Up until the 2000's no motorcycle manufacturers went bankrupt. They just went money poor.
Hell apparently DKW motorcycles and Vincent Motorcycles still exist.........they just haven't sold any in 30 years.

Bimota was the first one to actually get closed up. Buell was the second. MV will be the third. Norton will probably be the forth....... tis grim days ahead for motorcycles.

eerily similar to the way Buell went....
