If it was just me or some other faster individual going on a solo, it would be 1.5 hours to lunch/pit stop then 1.5 hours back to finish. Bada bing, bada boom!

However this is intended to be a big KB group ride. With the rest stops along the way to alow for slower riders to catch up as well as the lunch. It will be about 1600hrs - 1630hrs by the time you get home. If you wish to carry on for a slightly longer run, you can always go all the way to Raglan or just go back to Auckland via hunua/Maraitai beach etc etc.

I'm in titirangi, but I'm going along Hillsborough road and the airport motorway to get there. I'm guessing that seeing as you are in massey you'll just head down the north western and get on the southern?

Whatchoo talkin 'bout Willis?Borrowing Bruce's TL for a bit... But old Bruce stripped the sump plug... so its got a new clutch but no oil... I just got new tyres for it too... good old race tech on the back and supercorsa on the front...

Two Smoker
30th July 2005, 21:05
Aha I see.. well you be careful on that beastie Chris.. what about a bit of plumbers tape on the sump plug... just take some off the front fairing.

What front fairing.... hehehe... Its a tame beastie compared to the RG... handles better than the RG, but worse than the 600 (by huge amounts) The TL is also slower than my 600 (noticeably) But fark, wheelies in first gear are great, tank smacks you in the head real good... But i definately dont want to do a re-enactment of what Bruce did...

Thought I might as well post these photos of the major washed out bit (there are other smaller washed out bits) taken today - better safe than sorry.
It's signposted, but there are also other bits signposted similarly that aren't anywhere near as washed out as this bit. This one should have a bigger sign saying "CAUTION!!!!! ROAD COMPLETELY WASHED AWAY!!!!!" and "5km/h" imho... ;)

Anyway, I took photos of the road coming up to the washout. There's the photo of Naike Hall, which is a few corners (Firefight says 0.7km) before the washout.
Then there's the "one lane" sign and the "temporary 30km/h" sign just before the downhill left hander before the washout. They've had to cut away into the hill on the left of the road just so they could open one lane, the lane they've created is all gravel. So heed the signs. The panorama is looking back up the hill at the washout and the corner.

Firstly, Thanks heaps Erik!!

I decided to have a look through 22 on Sunday on my way up from Hammy and yep, it's all good. All you have to do is take caution when there are warning signs put up. Some times extream caution is required and some times it's only a few bits of gravel, so keep sharp and on your toes when passing through any road works sign posted area and you'll be alright!

Also, keep in mind that this is an open pace ride so anyone is welcome to come. These days most people usually ride in their own little group for enjoyable hassel free rides with similar paces. Which is really cool. Only thing is, you don't get to meet all the other people who go on the other rides and ofcousre you don't get that cool special feeling of a big huge KB ride. There for this will another once in a while oppertunity to meet the different KB faces that you might not normally see on your ride, so come along for an awesome day out!

Any new riders can always ask the more experienced riders for help so this is a great oppertunity for you guys to ride with more experienced people as well.

If you aren't experienced with big group rides, don't be shy. We'll try to keep the whole thing smooth flowing and there will be someone waiting at the turn offs and stops, so no one will be left behind!

F/F has kindly offered to do a flyby through SH22 just before Saturday, to give us an upto date report on the conditions for the big day.

Catch you guys later!

Uh - can we skip 22 until the roadworks are done??

I rode down 22 on Sat with F/F and ended up cutting my tyre quite badly and had to buy a new front tyre.....

There are some really sharp stones in that area...

Got it fitted at Colemans this arvo - saw the CBR there...

I don't think its that much of a problem, there are heaps of sections on the Coro loop that have the same type of metal(since the big flood), the other thing its unlikley the road works will ever be finished on 22, its an ongoing process., just watch your tyre pressures, and pick you path over the metal, worst part is only that 20 feet section at the big slip .7ks south of naike hall.

however I have promised Sudeep I will do a quick sweep that way before saturday so I can update if there are any changes.

I don't think the signs say Autobahn, I think they're just the usual rest area/food etc signs.

Here's a map. (http://www.wises.co.nz/map/default.asp?svctype=16&zoom=3&mapwhich=0&mapsize=2&width=512&height=512&businesses=1&brad=0&color=-1&filled=0&routemethod=0&s_id=&radius=&a=0&e=2682920&n=6454760&move=true&zoomin=true)

It's the bit marked "Motodrome Service Area".

I had a great day, thanks for organising it motoracer :niceone:

Ridge road with all the fog was neat, there were some good views up there. It was cool looking in my rear view mirrors and seeing the landscape behind me disappearing in the fog, must've only been about 50m visibility in some places.

I mostly took it fairly easy, particularly on the way back. But had some fun trying to keep up with Aff-man on the way down for a bit :)

SlashWylde, that new bike looks pretty nice for a cruiser :)

Marmoot
6th August 2005, 18:23
MR: enjoyed the ride. Great job. I turned around right before Waingaro Springs and headed back to akl with good pace lead by Santa Claus.

Who was the orange GSXR again? Sorry I forgot. But enjoyed the bit with you and Bruce until my visor was full of water (yes in the inside) so I couldn't see the road and had to stop.

It was great to see some of the old faces again... Draco... ok she aint old but ya know what I mean...hehehe. Draco you need to get out there on your bike a lot more..
Slashwylde - love the bike..... You ride her well...
Nak1d - nice bike......

Good to see a few new faces.

Wasn't to pleasant riding in that fog.... buggar all visability...slowed right down at a snail's pace...

Now I had a wee oops on the boulder section of the road - The washout section. As I was walking the bike throu it, the back wheel went over a rock on the wrong angle... and I started to feel the bike go out from under me... and start to lean over... got it back upright and continued on.

Hey A big thanks to Firefight, Motoracer, Aff-man and Zapf waiting at the turnoff's and corners for the likes of me coming up the rear.

Slashwylde, Nak1d and I were the tail enders today...
Slashwylde and Nak1d were both on brand new bikes and getting the feel of them... so it was nice to have company.

After leaving the loaded Hog, Gremlin, Nak1d and I headed back up SH1.
A good ride back. One dude in his car objected to me and Gremlin passing him and blocked off Nak1d from passing. But he did get past. hehehe.

We did loose two riders on the motorway, so I dont know where they ended up, but I do hope that they had a great ride. They missed the turnoff when we were on the motorway...

Marmoot and I only rode as far as Wainargo, by this time I was very late for my appointment, so a very good pace back saw us both a bit low on fuel, grabbed some gas at Glen Murray and home, thanks for keeping me co Marmoot, hope we can fit in a ride next week(should have my new bike by then)..

Thanks MR for organising the ride. It was great to meet some new peeps, Trev, send me that photo when you can, I will try and get some prices for the camera next week. I had a blast, as Crashe said taking it easy on the new bike, didn't want to bin it on my 1st big ride with it  . I can now say I have done 22. Some challenging corners, and hazards, but some nice open parts, and very picturesque. I went back via SH1 as I had to get back quickly, not nearly as much fun though as 22, although still had good company. I had to laugh when a car almost jumped in to the curb when crashe past it, I mean its nice when they move over but that was friggin ridiculous.

The bike went well, and I am now in  with V-Twins.

Slashwylde, nice ride :Punk:, Gremlin, keep up the good work, practice makes perfect, you and crashe are good to :ride: with  . Nice meeting you Trev, and Steve. I look forward to the next ride.

yeah, that would be MR, flat on the tank at 120 and he passes (with the beeeaaauuutiful rumble of a twin) like a bat outa hell. Then Death passes me likewise, 'cept he's on one wheel... Everytime I heard those twins I just about creamed myself... I think I have fallen in love... just waiting till it would be legal...

Cheers to all the guys who stopped and helped me when I decided to meet SH22 up close for the first time  . I think it was a combination of an early apex and negative camber... and I believe I had just about stopped before the bike decided it wanted to have a lie down.

But overall, an excellent ride, many thanks goes to MR and guiders  .

I'm sure this is one of the first 2 bikes which caught me out before I got down to the corner. All the others aren't in the camera ????? which fair pisses me off as I froze my bollocks off waiting up there.
Nak1d I will check out some cameras today - shutter speeds etc. & get back to you.

Ahh, after MR's post, I get it now...

I wan it I wan it, but a thou?? I still wan it... I intend on trying for an exemption when I get the R, but a thou will not be on the list. Even if it was, can you imagine...

Cop (after pulling me over): Now son, you have an R
Me: but I have an exemption!
Cop: yes, you stated the you felt the ZZR was too small to be safe
Me: Yep, so I got something a little bigger...

May I tempt you with my Ex SV650S with a really nice sounding M4 Full titanium system? Its the copper coloured one at Colemans :)

SteveD: was that you that caught up with me as I turned around and head back to Akl?
I don't think so. I was with Slashwyde and Eric when I hit the motorway just south of the Bombays.

Yeah good ride albeit brief for me , it was good to see you guys again anyway, I had to go home and give myself a right royale kick up the arse, as I had a moment on a corner shortly after meeting you guys, took it to fast, should have known better and acknowledge my stupidity Oh well !! controled it and kept it upright at least I suppose.

Good one for the organisation there MR M.R well done chap.

Swapped bikes with Spankme for a bit which was interesting, kinda like the niose of the Big V twin, but I will leave it at that I think, no offence Spank !, I think the feeling was mutual anyhow ?

Hope to see you out and about again soon.

Fully good ride on Sat, net has been down here for a few days. Good to meet all the regs as well as some newer faces, Marmoot good to finally meet you. Had a good ride down 22 despite a stuffed front tyre, sorted tomorrow hopefully, Bret you fool, should've left Hams earlier, death lol forgetting you're on a road bike rather than a MX bike, well saved though. Good lunch all be it a little more pricey than i like (think my whole weeks budget of $20 went in one sitting).

catch you all up this weekend :Punk:
