One never experienced a crosswind landing until one landed at Keflavick or the old Hong Kong Kai Tak airport. Some scarry sht happened there on a daily basis.

Also Keflavick is known as the only airport in the world to have frequent 30-40 knot cross winds on daily basis. (due to being close to North Pole)

When I was a frequent flyer many years ago I had a few roughies at Wellington.

But the worst I ever had was, believe it or not, here at The Tron, in a 737 when they used to fly here.

Tron runway runs mostly North-South. The winds mostly come from the West. Made sense to someone some time I suppose.

In the particular case, just as the 737 was about to touch down, there was a fat gust across the runway which tipped the starboard wing way up. LH wheel thumped down onto the tarmac, bounced up, other side came down, bounced and then things kinda settled down. A few white knuckles were apparent.

First time (and last) I ever saw passengers in a plane give the pilot a huge clap and cheer once we settled.

Yes, Hamilton can get hairy at times. I done my PPL there and had few "fuck me" moments in the old C172.
Westerly from the offshore, amazes me how far inland these gusts can carry. I think I gave my instructor an early retirement too. hehe

Not a landing but an "interesting" take off. The commentary is well worth the effort.

some brilliant pilot control in those vids.
Take my hat of them, gonads of pure titanium
Dont think I would like to slide a Kenworth B train sideways into a pac in save car park entrance,
that would be about the equivalent.

Saw that before. the old Russian Vodka burner. hehe. I bet they nearly sht them selves when they got to the end of the runway and the damn thing wouldn't lift off. And that would have been way past V1
