I'm looking for material to make a cylinder house/stop fire capable of a maximum theoretical temperature of 1400ºc (AKA awesome fire) other features I want in this material is lightweight & hardwearing (must handle abuse) oh & cheap :D
So if anyone works with, manufactures or knows of any suitable materials put your ideas/knowledge forth
Cheers
Asbestos from old electric blankets would be easy and cheap to get.
Should handle temps up to 3000 degrees

Perhaps a pottery shop might have those kiln blankets?
Repco have the RACE (brandname AFAIK) heat shielding (aluminum ceramic sandwich used around turbos).
No other good ideas sorry :(

a ceramic cylinder is what you are looking for, have at look at http://www.pyroclassic.co.nz/ as this is how they build there fires. Them may not sell you just the cylinder but hopefully it will answer some questions you have over what materials that are suitable.

hey cheers guys some good ideas to look into.
I didn't think of Asbestos (probably because it's not readily available) but finding some old stuff might work. Kiln shop is another good idea, never thought of that one was too busy looking at industrial never thought hobby, but makes sense. Ceramic is also a decent idea but not sure about lightweight & it's abuse ability, I have a feeling I'd break it within the month due to what this will be put through
But anymore ideas just keep 'em coming, more materials to look at/choose from the better it is
