What's a fair price for a used Tourance?

I went to get a Kenda front done at Cycletreads today and the workshop refused to fit the Tourance I took down with me for the rear, saying it was too big for the rim (150/70-17). Which is funny, because that is the rim it had come off. Stock would have been a 130 and they offered to swap me for a used Tourance that size, but twas a bit older and squared, so I got them to sell me a 761 rear so I'd end up with a matching pair (hang the enormous expense of $115!)

No gripes with C-treads, bar they decided my heavy duty tube was end of life and replaced it with a standard tube without asking me. The HD tube was indeed dodgy, but I had a spare one at home they could have put on it.

Aaanyway, they suggested I sell my Tourance as it is in good nick. It has done about 5000kms or less and has a good 5mm all across the tyre, with no squaring I can see. DOT code says it was manufactured in mid 2008 and has spent most of its life stored under the house while I rode the replacement E-07. They were about $400 new (fork that!), but any idea what to ask for it now? Cheers.

The bike stores are getting really competitive with pricing on new tyres, which means anything second hand will reduce in price. Find the original price, half it, plus the cost of some decent piss I reckon.

I was thinking less than that! Who'd pay $200 second hand? That said, you can have it for $199 :msn-wink:

I had a look at Biketreadz site and the closest to that size was a new 130/80-18 Metzler ME55 for $150 including freight out.

Fair call :) But it was a Tourance onto a 17" DR rim...

But I once read a useful tip on here that it was easier to carry the right tools and to find someone who knows how to use them, than to know what you're doing but not have the tools! So I have the tools and I know the theory and if push came to shove, anywhere I ride on my own I expect I could manage... to walk far enough so I could call the AA!

But yes, I should HTFU. We're moving house in a few weeks and I am getting a man cave, so once I can screw it up in there long and often enough to learn what I'm doing, I'll get into it. The opportunity to point and laugh while drinking my beer may be offered to volunteers at that time.

That 150/70-17 is the stock size for the triumph tiger, maybe carey or another tiger owner might be keen mate

Depends on condition and age I guess (no photo?), but probably $100 to $150? 2nd hand isn't worth too much, then you have fitting on top, Cycletreads would throw in fitting for example, if you bought from them, so it has to be factored into the cost of buying new vs 2nd hand.

If it's a good deal, lemme know, could be interested... I presume you're near Auckland... so I can collect.

edit: re what Dino said, I think the Tiger is a 180/55/17 from memory, but the 150 is OEM for 1200GS, Vstrom and several others...

955i Tiger adventure bike had 150/70x17, 1050 Tiger street bike had 180/55x17, IMO the 1050 had no right to be called a Tiger

I'm going to see how I get on with the K761 rear before I move on the Tourance because I have heard the Kenda's wet tarmac performance is a bit so-so. And after a bit of a palaver, I ended up with an Anakee 2 on the front, making a completely different combo from the original plan due to sizes and availability. Liking the Anakee so far.
