Been summoned to Ireland for brothers wedding next year in August. Had a quick look to see what else we can do while there and nothing interesting really came up.

Anyone been there and got some ideas on what could possibly entertain a mid 20's couple?

Yup, first thing I would be doing is checking out the road racing calendar. Apparently the drinking after the races is almost as entertaining.

They have a proud road racing scene. Should be obscenely fun to attend.

Get to know the locals really quick, so they can show you the best of Ireland.

To do this...Go to any pub start a fight by punching someone in the face - this is considered a friendly greeting. :sunny:

That's a bucket of arse! All the way to Ireland & no road racing. Gypsy fair? Horses, dags, brawling & fat weddings..

Go leprachaun hunting? Or ginga spotting? Start a potato plot? I don't actually know much about the ol'celtic tiger (or formerly so!) At least you are off to a different clime and on holiday! :woohoo:

Well I did see this last night http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=c9d_1336308120

I guess this is real Irish road racing

There could be a chance of Dundrod or the Ulster GP which would be fantastic. All depends on the dates. Currently one of them falls on the wedding date.

Yes! When I was over there in the UK I worked with some Irish lasses who showed me a grand time.

For a laugh walk into a rural pub and ask for a lager. This is a most entertaining way to spend the afternoon......trust me :msn-wink:

Motorcycle Rental and Tours in Ireland.
http://www.irishbike.com/Have considered a motorcycle tour.
This place http://www.motorental.ie/ is more appropriate as we will most likely be landing in Dublin. $1300 for a 3 day self guided tour. I think the price puts that out of reach. I haven't even toured New Zealand yet anyway!

Ireland is more about the vibe and scenery than attractions imho. If you like pubs then Ireland is a great place.

Rent a car and drive around the ring of kerry and West Cork. Call into Cobh where the titanic sailed from.

Find all the castles and ruins. There are some pretty cool ones around, from well maintained posh Kilkenny castle through to single walls of a tower sticking up in a farmers field.

Call into a small town pub and have some craic with the locals.

Go to Blarney Castle and kiss the blarney stone - it gives you the gift of the gab.

I spent a year there and loved the place. Mind you a knocked back a guiness or three.

If it's still not your scene then head over to London or Paris, it's not far or expensive.

Just a tip, don't try getting any of the local lasses drunk with an eye to getting a leg over. You'll find yourself under the table and they'll still be going when you wake up.

Bahahahaaaaaaaa. Just as well he didn't say jizz.

It's an urban myth - maybe. Everyone knows someone who's pissed on it. But if in any country that it's going to be true it'll be ireland.

I'd bet they do, but go for a swim in half the beaches in Auckland and you're kissing worse shit.

You guys are probably a bit young to remember the "troubles" but when I was there in '99 I took taxi tours of Belfast and Londonderry(or Derry depending on who you talk to) hoping to learn more. I actually got more confused. I thought it was just Catholics hating Protestants but there was a potato famine as well that was all the fault of the Brits or something.

Still interesting to see all the murals supporting the hunger strikers(remember Bobby Sands) and so on from those times.

Also where the Bloody Sunday deaths occurred....thats right, U2 sung about it.

O'Connell St in Dublin was pretty good for pubs too. I had a ball and the locals were friendly. Giants causeway is pretty interesting and kissing the Blarney Stone just so you can say you did it is cool, even if you are hanging upside down over a big drop with someone holding your feet.

Don't know much about the Irish Republic (wasn't allowed there) but, bearing in mind I left there 6 years ago, if you go up to N. Ireland:

1. Ulster GP 6 - 11 Aug.

http://www.ulstergrandprix.net/

I always used to stand a a corner known as Deers Leap - scary!

2. Pay a visit to Joeys Bar in Ballymoney - It was owned by Joey Dunlop and is still run by one of his sons. Full off his racing memorabilia, including a couple of his bikes hanging from the ceiling.

3, N. Antrim coast - Giants causway, Carrick-a-reide (bit of a rip off), Bushmills Distillery

4. Belfast is a cracking night out.

Further afield, if you are there long enough, the Manx GP is on at the end of the month and there is a round of the BSB championship at Cadwell park at the same time

Hey Man
Hopefully you can detour to NORTHERN Ireland in Mid-August and you can attend the BEST full-field Motorcycle Road Race in the world. The Ulster Grand Prix. You will be able to rub shoulders with a few of your compatriots in the pits and then scare the pants off yourself watching them at 200MPH on the track which is over the hedge. To get yourself psyched for this spectacle log onto realroadracing.com and give me a call on +447789224569 before you come. I might even have a bike you can use.

If it's excitement you're after then ensure you wear a Glasgow Rangers football top. Otherwise there's loads to do in Ireland unless you're a moron. Dublin alone has more culture and nightlife than the whole of New Zealand combined.

That's terrible advice Scracha!!! You know if Sil3nt puts on a Rangers top his skin will blister and peel off. Much safer to wear the green and white hoops:innocent:

My advice.....when you get to Ireland....catch the first ferry over to Scotland. It's far more entertaining and you get a better class of redhead over there. Trust me.;)
