I wear sunglasses under my fullface for the glare etc and i have just purchased a new helmet and does anyone wear one of those reflective visors cause i was wondering if they stop glare and overbrightness very well??
I think they are called iridium or something like that?
ARE THEY GOOD OR BAD

You're better off sticking with the sunglasses. If you have the iridium then you have to plan ahead every time thinking if you are going to be out past dark or not. If you are then you'll need to pack the clear aswell and then stop somewhere and hassle with changing it over.

I used to ride with just a clear visor and sunnies but then i got a tinted visor and i find it heaps better during the day
its quite easy to see at night if your in a area with street lights, if not just use your high beam :ride:
But whatever floats your boat i suppose

The flip visor is a really good way of having a reflective visor without having to keep changing it over. On really bright days I'll still wear sunglasses as well, but most of the time it's fine without.
You probably can't justify the cost of the helmet on that alone, though. I bought it because it's the only helmet that fits my (obviously massive) head and allows me to wear glasses as well.

have an iridium that I wear on my ride helmet and often ride at night with it, only really a problem if it is raining and night then things become difficult especially if your trying to keep up with MRs van!
Commuting in the winter I wear a clear visor on my other helmet with sunnies so the trip home is without them generally, but in summer I just use a tinted as well.
and as for iridiums being fragile I have had mine for over a year now and there is only slight wearing of the relective coating where my fingers grab to open and close it, and one scratch that I put on it when adding a fog city type thing which is a must for any visor and are only about 30 bucks and stop all fogging.

I have two visors, a tinted and a clear. I found the tinted just was a no go for winter so I just use the clear for winter and the tinted for summer. I dont like wearing sun glasses underneath a helmet.

I have tried dark visors but have unpleasant memories of riding through freezing weather at night with the visor up because I couldn't see otherwise.
(Bad planning I know)
The RayBans I use for driving are useless in a helmet as they don't stay in place.
Also tried the BMW Sonnenblende (?sp) on my old System III but it has the same disadvantages as a dark visor.
When I got my Shoei I also bought a Sunblocker from http://www.helmetheadcyclegear.com/
It's a green strip across the top of the inside of the visor. You don't look through it, you look under it. In the event of sunstrike you can just tilt the head and look through the strip temporararily.
At "only" US$15.95, plus postage, it ain't cheap but it is the best all-round solution I have found. And waaay cheaper than a dark visor.

I can't seem to get my aviators on while my helmet is on... it is quite annoying as i have to lift the visor and rearrange them every intersection...

Tinted visors keep your face cooler and there aren't frames etc to obstruct your peripheral vision. There are spare visor carriers that you strap around your waist to make carrying a spare easy.

I've been meaning to get some avaitors for a while now...so that when that little civic pulls up at the lights, I can look across and lift my mean looking tinted visor only for the little boy racer to be even more frightened by my avaitors!:Punk:

For years (6? 7?) I wore a clear visor with Bollé sunglasses underneath, and most of the time apart from very cold days, I used to ride with my visor up. The Bollés fit quite closely to my face, are optically correct, neutral tint, and reasonably thick shatterproof polycarbonate. The arms were thin metal, so they fit very well under my helmet. However, when I got my X-Vent with two visors (clear, and tinted/mirrored), the tinted visor was so much better than wearing sunglasses that I stopped using the sunglasses. Just as well, because I lent them to my son and he lost them.
Sunglasses and a clear visor is better in some ways (versatility, changing light levels), but more fiddly, and I dropped my sunglasses many times fiddling with helmet, gloves, sunglasses, etc. I even ran them over once. For cutting out glare, the tinted/mirrored (yeah, it's both) visor is better.

I use a clear visor with oakleys - the straight frame makes them very easy to slide in. I like riding with the visor open at residential speeds, less claustrophobic, and its nice and breezy, and using sunnies means you can do that without getting your eyeballs blown out.
Which brings up another point . . . have had a few occaisions where I have had stones flick up at me from oncoming cars, leaves chips in your sunnies, not happy . . . but better that that getting one in the eye I guess. Also, a couple of times I have had my sunnies rattle off my seat when I have been putting my helmet on while the bike warms up. Again, not happy . . .
Another thought, do any of the manufacturers make visors with that light sensitive coating that you can get on perscription glasses? I know a few people with those glasses, the ones where they automatically tint when you go out side, or anywhere bright . . . that would be cool on a helmet.

Shit that looks sweet. Might have to get me one of them one day. Do they make a flip up model?
EDIT: Just had me a look, there are two of them and a third that doesn't have a full chin bar. Looks a bit goofy that one.
I like this one..

ARE THEY GOOD OR BADIMO a tinted or Iridium visor during a sunny day is a better feel and experience than sunglasses. However, I do miss wearing my sunnies sometimes cos they have a red tint through the lenses and enhance the natural scenery somewhat, especially them red roses.
