Or if you think they are not right for each other, you could look here. http://www.cyclepedia.com/yamaha-motorcycle-atv-model-year-identification/ :Punk:

LOL.. Thanks for that Unstuck. The trouble is the bike has no VIN number, just the frame and engine number. I struck this with another YB100 I own and Yamaha Australasia were able to send through a chart showing dates on it but this bike is pre their records as their charts starts at 1970 with frame number 100000. I heard there is a website in Zambia or some other random country that has really good info on dating the bikes and I wonder if anyone knows the link to it as I can't remember it's name.

Sounds like it's not a YB-100 but a YL-2 which predates them.
Do you have a pic of it?
I had some good tips on what to do on your first date with it, but its seems, thats not what you mean?

Heres a quick pic I took of it. Instruments are just a speedo with no plastic-ware around it. The side covers are curved around the wheel arch (Unlike my other YB-100 which is straight). I had a look at the sites that have been posted and still cannot find a matching serial number range. This is getting really frustrating...lol.

I still think it looks more like a YL-2.

I think you may be right as it is identical to one in the photos on the page you posted. I still haven't been able to find its serial number falling within a number range to give is a definite date, but at least it narrows down the years it could be.

In this list 166 model says L2 1966

Thanks for that RDjase. I see they used the L2 prefix on early YB100 models which is why I thought it was one of those. But having a 1966-68 date range certainly narrows it down for me. Cheers.

Just out of interest I rang the local Yamaha dealer who has that serial number listed as a 1973 YB100. However my other bike is a 1974 YB100 which was originally dated as a 1989 bike so the bike could be older than their records:confused:. So now I am thoroughly confused!
