View Full Version : Stators, wiring question for dirt bike

Im having brain fade, need input.
Bike is a Suzuki DR250.

What I want to acheive is a bike that runs, thats it. There will be no peripheral electronics, no lights, no sidestand switch, or indicators or key start, just a Kill switch and thats it.

I have attached a wiring diagram, and have highlighted a couple of sections related to some questions.
I have circled in purple, four wires that go from the magnetto to the CDI unit. I know these are required.
Of the wires that leave the CDI unit, I have highlighted three of them, by dotting their course to the ignition coil. (dotted with yellow, red, and pink dots)

If I wire in the Four wires circled in purple, and I wire in the three wires highlighted with dots, is this sufficient to run the bike? do I need anything else?

Looking at the stator, it appears the three yellow wires and the regulator are only required to convert the the three phase power produced so the battery can be kept charged, so that peripheral electrical items can be used.

So my questions, Can I wire in the highlighted wires, and have a running bike that easily? if so, can I ignore the three yellow wires and the regulator?

I feel I am missing something important.

For the purposes of this question, please ignore the fact that I have omitted a kill switch from the equation.263527
any help appreciated - its been a looong week

I have ripped out everything that I dont need for spark on the 200, don't even have a kill switch. three yellow three pink to the spark unit, blue and white for coil+ black and white for coil-.

not sure I follow, how far different is your set up from the picture I posted?

A little different although there is not much left. The three yellow from the stator go to the reg/rec, the pink, brown and green I think it is go to the ignitor, then from there to the coil. Dont know where I got the three pink from. It has been a very looooong day.:msn-wink:

Fuck all, packet of smokes or something would do me, got a mate that drives a truck to dunedin 5 days a week so I will see if he can drop them somewhere for you. He picks all the piss up for most of the pubs along the way, from the wharf somewhere.:msn-wink:

i'll chuck my two cents in.
i had to f*ckaround with a 6 pin CDI on a single cylinder a while back, ended up with less than 6 connections. turns out one was a restrictor.
at least one of the wires on the CDI (probably black) will be a ground,
you'll have one or two from the centre of the magneto and one from the pickup (these are easy to ID). (you may need a 12v signal/reference wire from regulator/battery)
you're correct in some wires out go to regulator etc, not sure if that's necessary to run your bike. the wire-out you do need is the lead to your coil for spark, usually a heavier gauge wire.

cool.
Looks like I have struck a deal with Unstuck to get my hands on the components I am missing, and from there I will use a bit of trial and error to get spark, then get the bugger running

Yeah, I think my one is only six connections, I just wanted it as simple as possible. like me.
