So I'm considering getting a DRZ400SM with most of the performance mods done, and I'm wondering what you fine chaps think it's worth.

This is it here. (http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/motorbikes/motorbikes/dual-purpose/auction-455226007.htm)
Is there anything that plagues the SM's in particular that I should keep an eye out for, and would anyone in christchurch be willing to come have a look at it with me, as I'm extremely inexperienced with this sort of thing.

Hi Im local to CHCH and can help you out if you need. I had one of these for a while and threw the Yoshi Book at it. It went much better for it and i loved it, Sadly life changes and i am now without it in favour of bricks and mortar, but i would say i have had some experiaence with this model. Heres Pics of mine before i sold it and some of the goodies i had on it. Most of the additions were all functional to improve preformance rather than look (ie engine related enhancements). Take a look and see. If you have any questions then please feel free to ask or PM me

They are great bikes.......however has the vendor given you the FULL history of the bike? If you are still keen get it checked carefully before purchase?
[I dont know what he has said, nor do I know the complete story so best you ask him]. I dont want to throw a spanner in the works, but these are great bikes and if it is a good one you will love it.

I haven't spoken to him yet, waiting for confirmation on my contract at work being renewed, but I'm definitely getting it checked out, especially since it's only done 2000ks, it's a little weird.

That sure has all the fruit.

I bought a street legal E , no real mods save case and hand guards, a few accessories for $5500 last week. 2010 with 5000kms.

Yeah, the fruit is mainly why I'm interested, I'm hoping I can snag it for ~6k since winters rolling in, but hey, 6.5 is still a pretty good deal from what I've seen.

I think you'll find that bike is actually owned by a KBer...

For commuting? Get a DRZ-SM.

Specifically, get this drz400sm: http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/motorbikes/motorbikes/dual-purpose/auction-455226007.htm

I got my DRZ (which, hilariously, is the one I first linked you to)

There's lots of advice on here about them. Great fun bike to play around town and the tight twisties on. If you sit on motorways and arterials a bit you'll get bored with it quickly. I had a 2010 with FMF pipe/k&N/jet kit/airbox mod and did the LEDs and tail tidy too. Nice wee machine but I like going for a blat in the weekends and the SM gave no protection from the wind. Anything over 80-90 ks you get buffeted around a bit. I swapped it for got a naked SV650 which has a bit more poke and can still throw it around in the twisties. Take it for a long ride too, the seat will hurt your ass!

I have KLX250 motard and I find the wind isn't too bad at 100km/h. I often go for 2 hour plus rides on it, even done several main highway trips between Hamilton and West Auckland. My ass wasn't too sore, my arms were fine and the wind never got too much. Nothing beats the motard for my needs (commuting and weekend blats through the twistiest road I can find).

Also my motard looks like sex on wheels.

Why would it need a new tyre after only 3700km?

Other than the fact that it's 6 years old.....
