Id think dinner time at a fancy restuarant would be awkward. reach out for a fork, and it magnetises to the back of your hand before you can grab it. (You could show how suave you are by saying 'hey look! Im wolverine!')
then, if you get your date home, youll have problems when you go to cradle her head while you pound her cos her ear rings will stick to your wrist.
I dont think he has thought this out very well

Magnets will screw with the batteries ability to hold a charge. Over time the magnets could corrupt the software by screwing up the sensitive chips inside. Lastly, in about 12 months time that type of Ipod won't be on sale any more and he will have to buy another model nano that wont fit the magnets (when his nano breaks (which it will if its stuck on by magnets.
