It's a mystery apparently why they were buried up to their necks. Maybe aliens did it ?????

Aliens my arse....
They were carved from the rock area above and behind their current position.
Holes were dug ready to receive the entire carving.
The carvings were then slid (probably on skids or rollers) and tilted into the waiting holes.
The holes (or graves) were then filled in.

The heads were left visible for spiritual belief reasons.

Actually they were a lot smaller when they were carved and then planted. They're like your nose - never stops growing...

Hope Jaffa won't start pouring out of it and enslaving the Tauri...:msn-wink:

I reckon it's a hoax, 'cos if you look at the bottom of the statute in the 1st photo, you'll see a pair of sunglasses and he's wearing a g-string...

fuck thats awesome!
the mind boggles a bit, a bunch of rag-cloth wearing starving foreign men got them statues into holes no problem, and people these days whine if theyre 5 minutes late finishing work.

Ummmm it is nothing new... many of the statues have bodies...

It has always been a theory that many of the bigger heads also had bodies that were burried... I got taught that in high school back in the 80's?????

however I look at some of these photo's and can not help but think many of them have been photoshopped... lol

Looks like he's been caught pissing in the corner.

And bet the one with the ship on it says "Thor was ere" underneath.

If he's English it wouldn't be a top hat....it's more likely to be a turban :)
