Just wondering what other people get out of a rear tyre. I dont think Im even going to get close to 4000km out of my rear. What about the other 636's how are finding the tyres holding out. Im not worried, just wonder what other people are getting out of the tyres. Anyone else have experience with the BT14. It is a factory specific BT14 so it maybe a little softer hence the wear. Whats a new BT14 going to cost me? Ill stick with them until the next tyre change and do both the front and rear.

joo just too dam fast mista, that's your problem, you tyre eater!
Nothing new between us to share Paul, but for the benefit of our viewers:
014 is getting down to wear line now at just over 4000kms - but I'm a softie rider, unlike your bad self.
I like the performance in the wet, I think it is very well matched to 636C1 in OE trim. It will be interesting what an off the shelf flavour of 014 is like.

No- I think the rider might be killing the tyres in your case.
Murderer!!!!!
It came as a bit of a shock to me when I got my first powerful bike and the tyres weren't even lasting 5000k with mostly commuting.

On my GS1200SS I achieved 5700 km from a Dunlop D207 rear tyre. On Pirelli MTR24 I have so far exceeded 6000km , and probably have about 1500 km left before it is due for replacement.

Heres a link to yesterdays discussion regarding the Michelin Pilot Sport tyre.
I got 8000km out of it.

tyre looks ok-ish. back of the bike looks a bit cacked up though! Was this during a Bling Ming episode?
I've just changed the front at 5700km for a Diablo Corsa $210. That's with one track day smoothed out the sides but the middle had plenty of tread left. Pity you can't peel if off with a blade and glue it to the sidewalls!
I'm going to try Diablos because I like em. The BT014's were a strange size 120/65 where other brands only seem to come in 120/70. IF today clears I will get out for first ride to run it in and see how it feels. Weather not looking promising. Bastard.
Rear is almost shot so it will be a Diablo standard next week probably. Rear is wearing evenly. Usually its the rear that goes first on the bigger bikes so hopefully the 636 may prove cheaper to run if the rears last longer (being $320 for most rears).
I got 5000K out of a dunlop trailmax and sofar have 2000k on a vee rubber VRM147 and it's about half worn.

Try a Metzeler Z6 roadtec, you'll be happy with the grip and should get 10,000 km or the new Pirelli spada, which is basically the same tyre.

I'm not worried though as a 120/90-17 Trailmax costs half what a sprotsbike tyre costs.

I got around 7000kms (maybe a touch more) from a rear Pilot Power on my '02 6R. That included a couple of track days too, so was pretty stoked with that. Granted, the '02 is down on power compared to the '05, but way heavier. The front is still half good too (aren't I an optimisit/cheap ass).

How do you do a burnout with a trailmax? :devil2:
I tried on instruction once and uh ... the frount wheel started sliding a bit and I let go of the brakes to stop myself falling and ended up going at about 80 down a narrow driveway before slamming on the brakes again.
Not that I'd do these things now. *innocent whistle*

my ZXR has similar power and weighs more but i was getting about 4500km out of Mich pilot spots on the rear and about 7000km on the front. the pilot sports are good for mile munching but i dont reconmend them as a fast road/ track tyre tho, had a few interesting moments when giving it some go.
i am really going to enjoy the tyre wear on the gixer

the first rear 012 I had lasted me a nice 11,000ks, and the front was fine for a bit longer. So I bought another 012 being quite happy with the grip and wanted to keep the front and rear matched. Well the back one got about 3,000ks and the front is almost gone, so I replaced it with an 011. Now that's almost gone, and the back is ok-ish.. me pushing hard in straight lines and practicing my wheelies has left the middle of the tyre shit. So after about 4,000ks, the back is pretty much done. I think I'll be treating the new tyres a bit better than that..

Well I have just returned from a afternoon ride, and dammit I got a puncture. So
im off to get a new tyre this week. Thank you to the peeps I was riding with for helping out. Good ride aprt from the puncture, a little wet.
Just put a new set of Pirelli's on my Blackbird, the previous tyres took me about 8,000kms before the canvas/metal started showing on the rear. I'm happy with that mileage, even though it looks like every 3 months or so I'll be shelling out for new tyres, so that's close to $2000 per year on rubber!
How quickly you wear your tyres out depends on the size and power of your motorcycle and how hard you ride it!

I have been a big NANA on my 750 and the 014's have probly only worn 1mm after 2000k's
I remember reading on Bridgestone's site that the OEM 014's for the 636 has 1/2 normal tread...

That explains alot as when I got it I thought it didnt have a hug amount of tread thru the middle. :weird:

Wise choice KawaGreen. Your front should go the distance fine. It will be interesting to hear what the standard 014 does mileage wise in comparison. 4K is fairly average(across all rider types). I'm sure You've been keeping Your pressures to the book? I'm sure Mike will do You a sharp deal...

I don't think thats necessarily the case. On my NSR250SP I used to get 3000km out of Michelin Pilot Race, 4000km max out of Dunlop GPR70SP's. I always prefer stickiness to longevity, cheap insurance for my ass :)
Although I used to go pretty hard on my daily commute, the middle of the tyre still got wasted first though despite being nicely used to the edges.
To get maximum value I had to go hard in the corners :ride: or thats what I use to tell the wife

depending on mood, it is the pointy end of a Dainese boot (which I know you can't or want to afford), or the more reliable ass-ometer.
Obviously your older version of the ass-ometer was a bit off yesterday huh? Ask for an upgraded one like mine.

On my 04 636 I got 13000 kms out of a standard Pirelli Diablo, including 3 track days.
I know Im slow and ride like a pussy but none the less bloody good wear, never had a problem in wet or dry ever. I love em.
As soon as the Bt014 run out on the 05 ZXR Im back into the Diablo for sure.

Still got the stock tyres on mine (nearly 4yrs old). Think they'll last for another 4yrs.
So far I've done 12,000km and the rear looks to be approaching 1/2 worn. Front looks like new.
Actually, the front still has those little spiky things on the sides.
Wear seems to be mostly in the middle, edges look untouched.
No track days with 99% commuting around town.

You been carrying it around under your arm Fp? Well they are nearly that light. (126kg?) I think I got about 12000 out of the rear on my old fxr before I had to replace it.
My current bike has put 5000k on the Bridgestone whateveritis and hardly looks worn at all. Nana riders rule!

I can get about 3 meters from a tyre before it blows... less if I put the front brake RIGHT on....!

Priced a tyre will get a new BT014 on Friday. See how long that goes and go from there.
