If you could race in any era, when would it be?
The ’60s, no question. Look at the bikes: the Honda six-cylinder 250/297; the four-cylinder 125cc Yamaha… Fascinating stuff. I’d love it for the machinery, but I also think I’d get less attention, because I’d stand out less. I stand out now, because I’m different, but back in the 1960s everyone was doing the same things I do. I’d also love to be in 1993 so I could race John Britten’s own Britten around Wanganui, New Zealand.

A smart man would ask him to do a couple of demonstration laps on the Britten on Boxing Day.

Obviously someone would have to foot the bill............. but im sure there would be a few irish road racers who would do that trip just for the crack (or the criag or whatever they say).
Be a good excuse to leave UK/Ireland at christmas.
Guy Martin
Micheal Dunlop would be my first choices.... sure you all have other names.
They would probebly class our tracks as a road also.........
Be a great drawcard with Martin after the film.

Speaking of Shaun, he's been awful quiet lately, Anyone know what he's up to?

I dont think it would be hard for Guy to get a ride around Wangas on a superbike, I think his point is more about riding the Britten.

He would be a good drawcard for a new type of crowd, every housewife who reads Womans Weekly knows who he is.

I dunno Merv, I reckon it'd be an even money bet alround: Dan, one of our boys (Chop, Stroudy, Craig, Nick), and a few of the Northern hemisphere contingent. I can't see anyone doin' it easy!

Just looked at our times and im 2 seconds a lap faster than he was. Admitedly I am on bigger newer machinery but Craig Shirriffs only managed to get 0.3 faster on his new machine so I reckon he wont see where I went mate :bleh:

Pretty sure Dan and Sloan and a few oters would smoke the lot of them. Guy was out here I think 05 or 06 and got nowhere. I think Bernard racing had some young aussie kids out here that had never seen a street race and they even gave Guy a hidding.:bleh:

TWO second placings Craig, now I know you've won more races round the circuit than everyone except Robert Holden but even you would have to admit that a couple of second places is somewhere.

Latest Performance Bikes dropped through the door today. Everyone talks about dream bikes, so you get the Panigale, RG500 etc, etc. Guy Martin just said the Britten. He'd come over for a ride on that without question. The Brass Monkey clashes with some race he is doing though.

wow that's an idea, was looked into as when the TT3D movie came out last year and it was noted his screen saver was the Britten, but it's a bit hard to rustle up a competitive superbike for a one off meeting etc, find the coin, mechanics, transport, beleive me I spent some time doing just that

If you think bringing out Guy Martin to do a couple of demonstration laps at the Cemetery Circuit without him actually doing any racing while he was here is a brainstorm then you need a reality check...

It's one thing to admire a legend, to acknowledge his National and International achievements, to remember when he raced the circuit himself on a farkin' beast of a bike against a stellar international field. But what exactly would be the point of watching Guy Martin just trundle around the circuit? Fashion tips?

Im pretty sure if Guy woke up one morning and wanted to race a superbike at wangas he would have it sorted by the end of the day. He isnt going to have to wait for the NZ Salvation Army to pass the tin around to raise some money to buy Jimmy Mairs old race bike, and a Mazda Bongo.

The point is he said he wanted to ride a Britten around wanganui. The poor cunt might just want to have a holiday.

He could have my GSX550 ED to race if he wants it? Pretty sure I could rustle up a trailer to tow it behind the Bighorn too if we needed to. Salvation Army wouldn't need to pledge too much at all.
