View Full Version : Possibly stupid questions after replacing rear brake pads

So I have put new pads in the rear brake and things dont seem right. Firstly the peddle seems spongy compared to previously and it takes alot more pressure to slow the bike down, also I can't get the brakes to lock up at all no matter how hard I try. Secondly after a short test ride the rear rotor is very hot as if the brakes arent releasing completely.
I have bled it twice now with no obvious improvement.
All suggestions welcome.

Did you clean and inspect the pistons when you changed the pads? And what sort of pads did you get? some required a bedding in procedure, and if the piston are sticking on, that won't have been done properly.

Yep gave everything a good clean. Pads are kevlar I think.

I re-did the job and bled the line again and that seems to have solved the sticking piston.

Give them a chance to bed in. Because the pads are flat and your worn rotor won't be it takes a while for the pads to bed in.
