Slotted cams

Has anyone got any recommendations/contacts for someone who can slot cams? To be more specific - Pain in the arse, gear driven, V4 cams?

Are they pressed on or bolted on?
I would assume your local machine shop should be able to put the gears in a mill if they are bolt ups. Otherwise you can carefully use a rat tail file depending on how many degrees you are looking at going. From memory on other Honda cam gears I have looked at there is already about 2 degrees of play in the bolt holes alone std. Good old factory tolerance!

Also pro tip is while doing it, remove that (offset spring loaded) dampening gear. Horse power sucker right there.

Some of the Honda gear drive cams have the sprocket in one piece with the cam - depends if the cam is on needle bearings too.
If so, to replace those is a pain of a job as the cam has to be pressed apart - and there's no index marks...
Personally, I wouldn't worry overmuch about slotting if it is feasible. Most of the V4's measure up around 105/105 lobe centers which works quite well in those heads.
I wouldn't remove the preload gear myself either - you just would not believe how noisy the top ends get without it.
A bigger problem is getting enough compression - can't cut heads or barrels as you stuff up the gear mesh.
Back a few years I was shown a set of pistons for an NC30 a guy had CNC machined from billet...just over 12:1 com I believe.
It was still slow....

Yep - they are already gone!

Unfortunately they are pressed-on. Because of the gear train, the sprocket is also in the centre of the camshaft. I was going to take it to a local machine shop, but was looking for somewhere with experience as it would be fairly easy to screw up! And being a V4, there are 4 of them.

If you find a machine shop .... i would go to one recommended by a bike rider who has had work done (and is happy) As some of the so called "machine shops" who do auto work are used to doing chevy heads/cams which mean they work to the "she,ll be alright /use some of that loctite stuff" type tolerances.

hahaha - yeah, was due to dyno her few months back but she blew a head gasket so got a strip down then.

Speaking of quick stuff heard you traded the bogan wagon for a grandpa mover..... does it have a clock in the dash?
