Some of you may have been aware that part of my Social Work degree, this semester, consists of a 14 week placement. Basically on the job training (but we don't get paid).

The placement I was supposed to commence 2 weeks ago fell through a week out from beginning, my potential supervisor realised (a little too late) that he didn't have the time to commit to taking on a student.

Anyhoooooo, the great news is I have secured a placement! I start tomorrow at the Rangitahi (youth) unit at Kenepuru Hospital, it's a mental health unit specifically for youth aged 13 to 19 years. I am feeling a mixture of excitiment and great nervousness. I think this is actually more my thing than the other would have been, my previous was with older people and not that I have anything against them I think I'm more keen to work with youth. I let ya know in 14 weeks!

Another of the upsides is I get to ride out to Porirua 4 days a week! :2thumbsup

Congrats CSL.

I have worked in Dual diagnosis and have great respect for Social Workers, one of the best pieces of advice I was given is "don't get too wrapped up in the dissapointments, 1 success is worth more than 100 dissapointments".

Compassion is the key!

Keep up the good work.

Best of luck with the placement, CSL. I have a great deal of respect for those who work with people with mental illness, and I hope you are lucky enough to find your niche.

And don't forget to lock your bike up each day....

She's never had problems with it being stolen that I recall.. just smashed and bashed and abused. So she needs to find a nice secure spot to leave it.. like wrapped in bubble wrap inside a shipping container :-P
