Pretty much sums up what it's like to jump on the kind of bikes you are allowed for your learners. I'm just prowling the marketplace and whatnot looking for something that might suit. I'm extremely mechanically minded, love fixing things and a good project so ideally something cheap that might need a little work.

Currently own a 1974 TS 75/75 mini cro suzuki with 2500kms on it from factory, was my mothers waaaaaay back in the day but never really got used. Having some trouble with the carb on it mostly cause I have no idea what it is and has had fuel sitting in it for years which has coated everything, a mikuni something; VM16sc? not sure. Have been able to ride from real young but never on the road, hoping to change that but the Suzuki is unregistered so looking out for something usable. I'm an engine builder, fabricator, ecu tuner, panelbeater and painter so nothing really bothers me. Jack of all trades, master of none as they say.

Anyway hi, might see me come back to bitch when I throw all my toys out of the basket over this needle valve and assembly I have all over my computer desk right now:laugh:

My olds live in Pukekohe and I have reassembled my carb on my speedway bike so many times I lost count. By the sounds of it the metal has been corroded. Get the bowl off take out the float and needle clean all that up, get a can of Carb cleaner (CRC have a can of it), if anything inside is rusted it might be beyond repair, depending where it is. Get an air compressor and blow out any junk that might be in the needle. Get all the individual components cleaned up and put them back where you found them (making sure they have full movement). As for the slide and spring Thats a simple job I'm sure you could figure that out (I usually just take it out give it a wipe and a spray of CRC, chuck it back in and make sure the throttle snaps back strong and the slide opens and closes fully).

If you ever need a hand I'm in Pukekohe some weekends and usually bored if you want a hand.

Yep cleaned it all up, was quite varnished. I have an old chevy I mess around with and have started restoring a 66 AMC rambler this year so carbs are an old enemy of my sanity.

After looking at diagrams and reaffirming that I was seeing what I thought I was seeing the needle valve in it was backwards, somehow it was managing to run like that if only for short bursts. Haven't tried it again yet but you can only assume it's a step in the right direction. It used to run like a champ but that would of been at least 10 years ago. I probably put the needle in backwards myself when I was 12 and trying to keep it running, ah well.

What speedways you run at haydes55? I've kicked around with speedway guys for years but I stick to the 4 wheeled kind of clay rippers.

I've done worse, like I said it was yeeeears ago this bike was apart and I would of been about 12 when it happened. The thing got parked not long before I bought my first car at 13.

I sometimes turn spanner on a a top class midget at huntly and the springs. Bit rich for my liking to get into that with my other projects but I have the old beater for the local dirt tracks when I feel like it. Chances are if it has a motor I'll like it, I even opened up the governor and ported out an old lawnmower once, revved like mad till I think I heat seized it from running lean:laugh:

Wouldn't happen to be Rickys midget would it?

haha governors and restricters are meant to be removed :Punk: I remember going to Rainbows End years back and finding the governor screw on the go-kart before we started haha I won that race:wings:

Yep got me one of them mowers, revs near on bouncing valves and makes a hell of a racket. This is mostly awesome because I'm the only rental in one of those 'quiet' streets where no one else dare's own a noisy petrol mower

I grew up in the opposite kind of neighbourhood. None of us really kept quiet, our house had a loud mower (that av-gas didn't help at all) and several motorbikes, we used to practice donuts on the speedway bikes on our back lawn and make a little race track around the house for the pit bikes. We just had the one neighbour about 5 houses down across the road who thought the world should be dead silent all the time and often called the police on us (The cops told us we were on their filing cabinet as frequently visited haha). We called the cops on them loads aswell to make a point, they got fined and had to put up a fence around their inflatable pool :killingme that was good. As for the rest of our neighbour wars lets just say they now have outside night vision surveillance cameras.

Yep it's ricks, they are grappling with that new honda motor and looking to put it on the engine dyno last I heard. I haven't actually been out with them/to watch for a while, should probably hit them up and see what's going on. What's your connection with ricky? Everyone seems to be in the same circles when it comes to things racing in circles :P

My rally car is Stu's old prelude, he popped the motor and I've been swearing and cursing getting it back together as a RWD mid engined car after racing it a season with another motor that ate the mains after stoving in the sump, the FWD thing wasn't my bag. Almost done but the timing belt is walking off the gears and shredding constantly which is a stupid holdup on such a huge project but still stopping me dead all the same.

Stu is into his bikes so anything that comes up I can bounce off him for ideas, he's far more clued up than I am on bikes.

I'm guessing you're Chase? :woohoo: Go back to the MR2 that was a mean car! (And its already RWD mid engine).

The one and only, my dad turfed all of the running gear for that car and the motor out in the scrap:facepalm: I have nothing left for it and need to buy a new donor car to get it going. I still have the crappy old 238 but it's in a bad way with a pretty cracked up chassis from 8 years of racing/crashing plus it needs a new race seat.

However the honda is almost done now anyway. I've had a pretty shit couple of seasons as far as blowing motors, gearboxes etc It looks pretty cool with all the intercooler and pipes stuffed in the rear

And now I want a road bike so I can blow that up or whatever it is you do with bikes to keep yourself amused.

That's a bit shit. The prelude looks fuckin mint though! (once you get everything going good haha).

Road bikes are for dodging cars:dodge: and having the engine not blowing up haha. If you get your full license you will be making a thread about going from a power to weight ratio of 940hp/tonne to a slow rally car with a power to weight ratio of 300hp/tonne. The little scooter you have would be good for commuting but not much else haha get a bandit or something and you will find yourself always just leaving the shed for a ride and not coming back for hours.

Yeah I'm pretty open with my choices, I'm not bothered if I get a sports type bike or a crossover dual purpose thing for tearing up the mud every now and then, either is enjoyable. The big thing is size, I'm 6ft 2 so some of the smaller bikes don't have a nice riding position if you have the hunch down. Some of the cruisers are nice to sit on but it's not the kind of bike I'm looking at, it's good being casual cause I can just wait till things fall into place and I see something I like. Perhaps tomorrow, maybe in a couple months depending on what I learn and what else I get busy with.

Winter tis the time for inside projects, even if I spot something at turners with all the plastic blown off and it's cheap enough. Only thing I'm wary of is the old line "carbs need tuning" on some of the bikes which is dirty code for runs like a heap of shit and needs a new set of pistons lol.

Too true haha or you could luck out and it could just be a set of rings.

I have a motard bike, I'm pretty short (taller than Ricky though haha) and I can just touch the ground with one foot. I've had 2 other road bikes and the motard has been the slowest straight line speed but definitely the most fun (still easily cruises at 100km/h). This is the same bike as mine (http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/motorbikes/motorbikes/dual-purpose/auction-470588007.htm) Except mine has the klx300 head and a graphic kit on it. Might buy me a set of dirt tyres and rims so I can swap them over easily and go for trial rides.

That's kinda like the stuff I like cause it's usable and fun cept I don't need a real nice one, something that has been laid over or needs a set of shock seals etc is fine. Only going to beat on it anyway and fall off in the driveway being dumb. I enjoy fixing things up slowly, those little things no one does.

Also not having the gear means I have to browse around for that to, the race gear gives me a helmet but a set of fireproof overalls won't do squat for road rash. Could probably use a new helmet anyway I guess. Should take up smoking, drinking and womanising; I'd save heaps.

 Too right there! I don't buy alcohol anymore, if it's a birthday present I'll happily accept it haha. Money better spent on a new set of sticky tyres!
Don't buy a fancy helmet that costs shit load if you aren't planning on going for big rides etc. Just a couple hundred bucks should get you one that will protect your head from falling apart. I'd advise getting waterproof gear with some padding (My jacket was a cheap scooter jacket but it has padding in the right places and kept me dry inside it after an hour riding through the rain so I can't complain).
